Treasure Hunting

The spy units, which are trained in your command center, give you information about enemy monster and human troops, but they also search unoccupied spaces on the combat map for treasure. Send spies on a treasure hunt, which lasts 12 hours, and they may return with food, gold, potions or treasure chests. Search bodies of water on the map for the chance to find an unhatched egg, which hatches into a faction monster. Each faction -- Dragon and Phoenix -- has three extremely powerful, unique monsters that fight for players. Once you acquire a faction monster, you'll gain reputation much more quickly.

Raiding vs. Conquering

You level up in 'Pocket Empires' by gaining reputation, and your reputation increases with each group of monsters you defeat. When you attack a monster on the map, you're given the choice between raiding and conquering. A raid costs 10 health points, and it ends when all of the units on one side of the battle are defeated. When you conquer a monster, which costs 25 health points, you defeat 80 percent of the group, and the remaining 20 percent join your army. At the beginning of the game, it's always more efficient to raid than to conquer, as health points slowly replenish over time, and a low-level player will conquer few monsters. Once you've leveled up and gained access to the stock market, you can purchase large numbers of monsters relatively cheaply. Even once you've advanced in the game, conquering is only worthwhile if you're actively collecting a particular type of monster and don't have enough gems to buy them.

Fast Recruiting

The point at which you can shop the stock market in 'Pocket Empires' depends on your game server; in some cases, you can't buy anything until you get 1,000 reputation and reach the rank of squire, and you may only be able to buy some items when you've achieved higher ranks. Even though you may not be able to buy stronger troops, you can still purchase large quantities of gold and food and use them to produce the units in your city. While the build time for 1 million bowman may take months, you can use the fast recruit spell to reduce the training time by 30 percent. Cast this spell repeatedly to further shrink the recruiting time. Research fast recruit at the research lab to cut down on the amount of mana needed to cast the spell.

Gems

Gems are the premium currency in 'Pocket Empires.' You earn gems at a rate of five per hour in your gem mine, and you also get gems from completing partner offers and by purchasing them with real-world money. All trades on the stock market are completed with gems, so it's important to spend them wisely. If any of your troops are defeated in a battle, you can use gems to revive them. However, it's almost always cheaper to buy fresh troops from the stock market than to revive them. Don't waste your gems on reviving small numbers of low-level units.
