Jota is an Android text editing application with support for documents up to one million characters in length. Its built-in features include search and replace functionality, undo, redo, customizable colors, word wrap, optional line number display, word count, automatic file saving and automatic indenting. Jota is free for life and isn’t supported by ads. The application requires Android 1.6 or later.

Notepad

Notepad is simple text editor for Android-powered devices. It's modeled after the Notepad text editor that comes with Microsoft Windows computers. The application's built-in features include the ability to create, save, open, edit and send files, automatic character set recognition and text display customization. Notepad is a free application. It requires Android 1.5 or later.

InkPad Notepad

InkPad Notepad is a text-editing application that lets you write on virtual lined notepad paper. Opening up the application reveals recent notes you’ve written, allowing you to edit them, send them via email or create new notes. InkPad Notepad’s features include automatic saving, automatic backup to Secure Digital memory cards and a synchronization tool that lets you save your notes online and sync them from a variety of mobile devices. The application also lets you share your text files by sending them to other mobile devices via SMS and email. InkPad Notepad is a free application that requires Android 2.1 or later.

Quickoffice Pro

Quickoffice Pro is a paid application that lets you create, edit, read and share Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents on your Android-powered device. The application features compatibility with Word’s .doc and .docx files types, and has support for a variety of languages, including Spanish, German, French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, Italian, Korean and Japanese. Quickoffice Pro costs around $15 and requires Android 2.0 or later.

Documents To Go

Like Quickoffice Pro, Documents To Go allows you to open, edit and save Microsoft Office documents, including Office’s text editor, Microsoft Word. Its text-specific features include full font customization, bulleted and numbered lists, bookmarks, tables, footnotes, endnotes, in-text comments, word count, changes tracking and find and replace tools. Documents To Go requires Android 1.5 or later and costs around $15.
