How to Sync Passwords to an Android Phone

1. Download and install a password manager on your computer. You can find LastPass at LastPass.com, KeePass at KeePass.info and SplasID at Splasdata.com/SplashID. As of July 2011, KeePass is free, but it requires that you use a file syncing service to sync your passwords between the Android and your computer. LastPass has a free computer service, but you'll need to pay the $1 monthly fee to sync with your phone. SplashID costs $9.99 for the Android app and $19.99 for the computer program.

2. Unlock your Android phone and open the application launcher. Find the 'Market' icon and tap it to open the Android Market. Touch the magnifying glass to open the search bar and type in the name of the software you installed on your computer. Press 'Enter,' then touch the listing for the app. Press the button under 'Install.' It will either say 'Free' or list the price of the app. Tap 'OK' to accept the permissions and install the app on your computer.

3. Set up KeePass. Save the database from your computer to a location you can access on your phone. Use 'File,' then 'Save As' to specify a location. For example, use a Dropbox account, a Google Docs account or a personal online server. Once the password database is saved into the online file storage, download the database file to your phone. Open the KeePassDroid app and tap the folder icon in the lower right corner. Go to the location of the database on your Android phone and press 'OK.'

4. Sync your LastPass computer software with your Android app. Log in to your Android app with your username and password. You can then browse the Web using the LastPass browser and your passwords will be automatically filled in. The default Android browser will not allow you to use your LastPass passwords.

5. Sync SplashID. Connect both your computer and your Android phone to the same Wi-Fi network. Open the SplashID software on your computer and the app on your phone. Tap the 'Sync' button on your phone to initiate the sync.
