Top Fat Burning Exercises Elliptical Machines

Advantages of the Elliptical

The elliptical is one of the most popular pieces of equipment at the gym. It is easy to use and keeps the stress off joints with fluid, low-impact motions. More importantly, the elliptical provides a full-body workout that works muscle groups of both the upper and lower body simultaneously, which is an attribute that most other popular pieces of cardiovascular equipment lack, and this can make for a much more effective workout.

Burning Fat

In order to burn fat, you want to burn fat calories. When you exercise moderately for a long period of time, your body burns a higher percentage of calories from fat vs. calories from carbohydrates. The ratio will vary depending on the person. However, according to fitness director at 'Prevention Magazine,' Michele Stanten, in his article entitled, 'Busting the Fat-Burning Zone Myth,' although you burn a higher percentage of fat calories while engaging in moderate exercise, high-intensity workouts burn more overall calories in significantly shorter periods of time. The following is a simplified example, just to illustrate how this works:If you spend one hour on the elliptical at a moderate pace, you may burn 200 calories, and 50 percent of calories burned will be from fat, resulting in 100 calories burned from fat. However, if you alternate between a low/moderate and intense pace for 45 minutes, you may burn 300 calories, and only 40 percent of calories will be from fat, but the net result would be 120 total calories burned from fat--20 more calories with 15 fewer minutes spent.

High Intensity Workout

A high-intensity workout focused on interval training is one of the best ways to burn fat when using an elliptical machine. An interval training workout simply consists of short burst of physical exertion followed by small recovery periods (intended to raise and drop your heart rate). According to a recent article on the 'Science Daily' website, interval training will not only burn more fat during interval exercises but will increase potential to burn fat when working out moderately as well. The article details a study by Jason Talanian, a PhD student in the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Guelph, in which he finds that after interval training, subjects were able to burn 36 percent more fat when going back to exercising moderately for one hour. To maximize burning calories from fat, Talanian suggests incorporating interval training twice a week into a workout routine to maximize fat burning potential.

Elliptical Interval Program

To burn the maximum calories overall (and ultimately the most calories from fat possible), you will want to begin interval training for all of your workouts on the elliptical. Once your body is acclimated, slowly begin to incorporate longer, more moderate cardiovascular exercising. The following section provides an example of an elliptical routine you may want to follow.

Fat Burning Elliptical Routine

To start:

Warm up five minutes

30 seconds high intensity (80 to 90 percent exertion, raising the speed and level on your machine) followed by 30 seconds recovery (moderate exertion). Repeat this cycle just five times for a total of five minutes.

Cool Down five minutes.

(15 minutes total)To build:

Continue the above referenced structure, but every third workout, add one more interval cycle (which will amount to one more minute) until you have reached 15 to 20 intervals (a total of 25 to 30 total minutes including warm up and cool down). To maintain:

Begin to incorporate longer, moderate workouts on the elliptical into your routine. Switch off between interval workouts and longer moderate workouts. A moderate workout should last about one hour. You will want to keep a level on the elliptical that you can maintain for the entirety of the workout without making it too easy. According to the Running for Fitness website, your percentage of heart rate reserve level should be between 60 percent and 70 percent for a long moderate workout. Interval training between longer moderate workouts will increase your fat burning potential.

Low Carb Diet Plan for Men

About the Caveman Diet

The caveman diet was created by Dr. Ben Balzer based on his years of research treating individuals with diet-related conditions. In stark contrast to current dietary trends preaching the benefits of scientifically advanced liquid diets and other modern forms of weight loss, the caveman diet takes a step back in time, modeling its dietary practices after the eating habits of our primitive ancestors. Noting that many of the world's remaining hunter-gatherer tribes do not suffer from maladies such as cancer, heart disease, depression or stroke at nearly the same rate as modernized people, Dr. Balzer says their secret lies in their fundamentally natural dietary practices.

Following the Low-Carb Diet

The caveman diet is a low-carb and carb-restricted diet. This means that you do not have to stay below a target number of carbs each day, but you must refrain from eating certain types of carbs.

On the cavemen diet, you will base your nutrition around the following: meat, fish, chicken, eggs, nuts (excepting cashews and peanuts), berries, fruits and vegetables. Abstain from the following food types: grains, beans, potatoes, dairy, sugar and added salt. That is the diet. It is a very basic way to stay low-carb and fulfill your health-related goals while teaching yourself a new way to view the world of food.

Considerations

Of course, in following the caveman diet you might fall victim to temptation and eat one of the prohibited foods. This is not ideal, but it is also not entirely unexpected. If you fall off the wagon, the most important thing to do is to immediately resume the plan with your next meal. Do not let one 'cheat' meal spiral into complete abandonment of the system. Just resume the plan as scheduled and try not to make the same mistake again.

While the diet works well for your fat-loss endeavors, it works even better as a year-round system of eating. If you have the time, energy, and willpower to make a permanent change, the caveman diet might reward you with sustained health.

Recipe for Diet Dog Food

Cook rice

Cooked rice can be white or brown rice, with white rice being easier to digest. Cook rice according to package directions, and enough for it to be fully cooked and soft. Do not add oil, butter or any spices to the rice. It should be cooked in water only. Once the rice is cooked, take it off the burner and set it aside to cool. Give your dog rice that is completely cooled, never hot.

Cook chicken

Remove any bones or fat from chicken breast meat and cut it into cubes. The cubes can be bite size, to avoid choking. Cook chicken breast meat in water, with no oil or spices. The meat should be completely white, with no pink visible on the inside. Remove from the burner and cool off. You can place the meat in a blender for a more fine texture, which is also a good idea if you are feeding it to small dogs or puppies.

Mix ingredients

The cooled rice and chicken can be mixed together with a spoon and placed in the dog's bowl. You might have to start with small amounts, just to get the dog familiar with new taste. Dogs sometimes reject a bland diet because it does not have a lot of flavor. Ask your dog's veterinarian if vegetables can be added to the mixture, such as cooked carrots and peas, which might add interest for the dog.

Trojan Removal on the Android Phone

Dangers of Trojan Malware

Mobile phones can become infected with Trojans from what the user thinks is a trusted source such as an SMS message or an Android app known as an APK. These Trojans often create backdoors, which give hackers remote access to personal and confidential information on the phone. The most sophisticated Android Trojan discovered by Kaspersky Labs is known as Backdoor.AndroidOS.Obad.a. This sneaky trojan, using an Android vulnerability infects devices and gains administrator privileges. Once successful, it can obtain confidential information from the infected device including the phone number, phone carrier and Bluetooth MAC address.

Update Your Firmware

In 2013, experts at Bluebox Security discovered a “Master Key” vulnerability in the Android OS that existed since Android 1.6. The security flaw allows a hacker to convert a seemingly legitimate application into a Trojan. After the vulnerability was discovered, Google patched it in a February 2013 update to its OS.For that reason, it’s important to update to the latest firmware version available for your device. To check for updates on your Android phone or tablet, go into your 'System Settings,' tap 'About Phone' and select 'System Updates.'

Malware Apps

Free apps such as avast! Mobile Security, Kaspersky Mobile Security Lite and Lookout Security & Antivirus can detect and remove Trojans from your Android device. To check for Trojans, download and install a mobile security app from Google Play and scan your device. Once the scan is complete, the report will let you know if a Trojan issue is detected. You will then be prompted to remove the Trojan.

Factory Reset

Another option to remove Trojans from the Android OS is to do a factory reset on the device. A factory reset will erase any saved data from the device, so it's important to back up your important data before proceeding. To back up data and then perform factory reset on your Android device, select 'System Settings' and then 'Privacy.' From there, you can back up any information before selecting the 'Factory Data Reset' option. If you think an app may have been the source of the Trojan, you will want to ensure you don't back up that particular app.

Warning on Exposed Data

Even after you successfully remove a Trojan virus from your Android device, you have to assume that any sensitive data that was on your device has been exposed. After getting rid of the malware, focus on changing any passwords or other sensitive information that might have been compromised.

What Does ATT Block on Androids?

Installing Applications from Sources Outside Android Market

Almost all Android devices can use the Android Market to download applications, but most allow you to download and install apps from other sources as well. Android applications come as an APK file you can save on your micro SD card or in the phone memory. You install the file by running it using a file manager application. To install these apps, you must enable the Unknown sources check box in the Applications section of the Settings menu. On AT&T handsets, the Unknown sources check box has been removed.

Tethering

The reference version of the Android operating system allows you to use the phone as a tethered modem for devices such as computers and other handhelds. When you set up tethering on your Android, the second device will use the phone's cellular data connection to connect to the Internet. The reference version of the Android OS supports Wi-Fi and USB tethering. You open the Settings menu, tap Wireless & network and select Tethering & portable hotspot. This menu option has been removed on AT&T handsets. AT&T does offer tethering through a proprietary application, but it requires one of the company's tethering plans to work.

Effects of Restrictions

While there are tens of thousands of Android applications on the Market, that's not all of them. Some developers prefer to use other methods of distribution, while other apps have been removed from the Market by Google. Tethering apps are an example. Google removed all the tethering applications from the Market at the request of AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless still allows users to install third-party apps through other sources, so it is possible to install tethering applications by running the APK file. Not so with AT&T. Unless you root your phone and install a custom version of the OS, you must pay extra for a tethering plan.

Removing Restrictions

Only one way exists to remove these restrictions from your AT&T Android device. The stock version of the Android OS prevents programs from making changes to system files in the root directory. Rooting is the process of removing these restrictions. One of the benefits of rooting is the ability to install another version Android, called a ROM. You can install a ROM without the restrictions on tethering and installing apps from other sources. The process for rooting is different for each handheld, but most require you to use the Android SDK Manager software on a PC. The software interfaces with the phone and allows you to make changes to the settings and upload the files.

How to Make an Android Phone Like a PlayStation

1. Make sure you have an adequate phone. Even though the original Sony Playstation is more than 15 years old, replicating the hardware on a phone is considerably taxing. You will need a phone with at least a 1-gigahertz processor and 512 megabytes of RAM to play Playstation ROMs smoothly. You can find out the specifications of your phone by looking at the box, retail box, documentation or on the manufacturer's website.

2. Download an emulator app. Various Playstation emulators are available in the Android Market, though you may want to install a 'Trail' or 'lite' version before paying for one. Users who are comfortable with non-Market applications can download 'psx4droid' with their phone browser, or download it with their computer and transfer it to the MicroSD card.

3. Download the original Playstation BIOS file and at least one Playstation ROM. You can save these files direcly to your MicroSD card, or download them with a computer and copy them over with a USB cable. The BIOS file is kind of like the Playstation's operating system -- the emulator will need to access it in order to play ROMs. Note that downloading the BIOS file is illegal if you do not own the Playstation hardware -- it's considered copyright infringement. Likewise, downloading a ROM for a game that you do not own is also illegal. Do not violate copyright while enjoying your Android phone.

4. Set up your emulator. Android emulators require a bit of setup before starting. You will need to enter the 'Settings' menu and load the BIOS file, then load a ROM file or folder. Each emulator has slightly different procedures for this, but those familiar with Android should be able to manage it without difficulty. You will also probably want to adjust the controls. Android game emulators can use a combination of on-screen 'soft' buttons and hardware buttons. Phones with slide-out keyboards can replicate a gamepad surprisingly well.

5. Set up a wireless controller, which is optional. Advanced users can connect an external controller via the Bluetooth radio in most Android phones. A popular option is to connect the controller from a Nintendo Wii, which is compatible with most Android phones using various apps from the Android Market. Users with root access and a Playstation 3 SIXAXIS controller can use special Windows software to connect it to an Android phone.

Implants For Snoring

Palatal Implants

As of 2010, the only true implant treatment on the market was the palatal implant. It consists of three small polyester implants placed in the soft palate with the patient under local anesthesia during a single office visit. The result is a stiffer soft palate and a reduction in tissue vibration. Minor complications have been reported in about 1 percent of cases. Complications are typically temporary and include a scratchy throat, voice change, swelling, infection, and allergic reaction.

Injection Snoreplasty

Injection snoreplasty involves injecting the patient's soft palate with a sclerotherapy agent, which stiffens or hardens part of the soft palate. According to clinical results published in 'Otolaryntology -- Head and Neck Surgery,' this simple procedure involves minimal cost and pain. On average, patients receive 1.8 treatments before they achieve the desired results. Ninety-two percent of patients reported a noticeable decrease in snoring.

Other Options

Surgical laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty, in which a surgeon removes the uvula with a laser, is also used to treat sleep apnea.Another surgical option is the Repose tongue-suspension procedure, which involves placing a small screw in the jaw to prevent the tongue from blocking the airway during sleep.Radio-frequency tissue ablation, or somnoplasty, involves shrinking the uvula with radio frequencies. It is similar to the newer Coblation-Channeling procedure, which also uses radio frequencies to the same end.Depending on the cause of the snoring, nasal surgery may also be suggested.

Weight Loss Leptin

Do You Have Leptin Deficiency?

Leptin deficiency is possible though rare. It is a congenital defect that causes very severe, early-onset obesity. It is treatable, though it is so uncommon that it is unlikely you may be suffering from this disorder. To date, only two families in Britain (originally of Pakistani decent) and one family in Turkey have been diagnosed with leptin deficiency.

Is Leptin an Effective Treatment for Obesity?

Since its discovery almost a decade ago, leptin has offered fluctuating hope for the treatment of obesity. Initially, medical experts had great expectations for the hormone. In 1995, researchers reported that leptin had resulted in mice eating less and losing weight. At that time there were high hopes that leptin would be a new and effective treatment for obesity. However, this hope was soon squashed with the realization that those suffering form obesity have leptin resistance in the brain, which would make them completely unresponsive to leptin treatment. More recent research on leptin and obese mice has inspired hope once again. Researchers have now discovered that increased stress in another area of the brain is responsible for leptin resistance in the obese. This means it is possible to re-sensitize the brain to leptin.

Leptin Regulation and Suspension

During and after a meal, leptin travels through the blood stream and tells the brain how full we area and about the quantity of fat stored in our body. Certain food items such as sugars and carbohydrates contain higher levels of leptin than our bodies are prepared for, and this can result in the brain's leptin receptors being bombarded with leptin. When this occurs, the brain's process for regulating leptin completely closes down and you start gaining weight.

The Leptin Diet

This problem can be fixed by regulating your diet and eating healthier foods. This means cutting down on carbohydrates and sugars so that your leptin messaging process will start working again and you will be burning fat once more. Byron J. Richards, a leading expert in natural health and supplements, published his book, 'Mastering Leptin,' in 2002. The book explains how important leptin is and exactly what is does. Richards emphasizes that leptin's function is essential not only for maintaining a balanced weight, but also to combat the effects of anti-aging.

How to Make a Stock Rooted Android Run Faster

Simple Modifications

1. Remove unneeded widgets from your home screen. Widgets, the active and/or animated tools that sit on your homescreen, can be useful or fun. But unfortunately, each widget increases the load on your phone's memory, slowing it down slightly. Running many widgets simultaneously can amplify this effect. To remove a widget, tap and hold it, then slide it into the 'Trash' icon and let go.

2. Uninstall apps that you don't use. Just as on full-sized computers, having too many programs installed can slow down and destabilize your system. Press the 'Home' button. Press the 'Menu' button. Tap 'Applications.' Tap 'Manage Applications.' Tap any app that you don't need or don't want; then tap 'Uninstall.' Tap 'OK.'

3. Don't use Live Wallpapers. Live Wallpapers are the dynamic, animated wallpapers included with your phone or downloaded from the Android Market. They're visually impressive, but they drain your phone's memory, processor and battery life much faster than regular static wallpaper. To disable a Live Wallpaper, tap and hold an empty area of the home screen. Tap 'Wallpaper' and choose a basic wallpaper for your homescreen.

4. Kill memory-hogging apps. Many apps like Browser or Gmail can get bogged down with lots of tabs or images, and will cause the entire system to slow down. To kill an over-extended app, press the 'Home' button. Press the 'Menu' button. Tap 'Settings. Tap 'Applications.' Tap 'Manage Applications.' Tap the over-extended app. Tap 'Force Stop.'

Advanced Modifications

5. Use a start-up manager app. Many applications start up in the background when you turn on your phone, using memory and processor cycles without delivering much in return. To curtail these apps, you can download a free startup manager like Startup Cleaner Pro or Startup Auditor Free from the Android Market. Install and open the app, and then select apps to disable. Note that these apps are still available from the Application Launcher.

6. Delete or disable system apps. If you don't use an app, like Sound Recorder, that can't be removed because it's included with Android, you can use a root-enabled file explorer (like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer) to delete it or make it inactive. Start your file explorer, then navigate to the /system/app folder. Tap and hold an app; then tap 'delete' to remove it completely or 'rename' to keep the app in a disabled state. Rename the app from 'example.apk' to 'example.old' to disable it. Use extreme caution when manually removing apps; removing crucial applications can damage or completely disable Android.

7. Install a processor overclock app. Most Android phones use processors with a set clock limit, which root-enabled users can exceed by using a special overclock program. Different apps work with different phones, and the speed at which your processor can safely operate differs among phone models. Note that this is a process for advanced users only, and may require the installation of a new kernel. Extreme overclocking or extended use can cause damage to your phone's hardware, so use extreme caution.

How to Draw a Military Tank

My Android Phone Blinks On Off When Calling

Proximity Sensor

Android phones, like the iPhone, include a piece of hardware known as the proximity sensor. This device senses when the phone is close to an object by emitting a beam or pulse of light to detect the distance between the phone and other objects. Ideally, it senses when you are holding the phone to your ear and turns off the display. Because you are talking on the phone, you do not need to see your phone as opposed to talking via speakerphone while completing other tasks on your phone. The proximity sensor is generally located next to the speaker, near the top of the phone.

Benefits

The proximity reduces usage of your phone's battery when it turns off the display because large displays use a lot of power. Furthermore, the sensor prevents accidental screen touching from your face or ear. Because touch-screen phones are sensitive to touches from other body parts, you may accidentally press a number on the dialer or even hang up on the person with whom you are speaking when holding your phone, especially if you cradle it between your shoulder and ear.

Blinking Display

In many cases, if your Android phone blinks on and off during a call, this is simply due to a partially obscured proximity sensor. You may tend to hold your phone in a manner that sometimes covers the sensor. If you are holding your phone correctly, the sensor may not perform as well if there is a lot of ambient light surrounding you. This light can cause the beam to reflect from your ear or possibly ear jewelry back toward your phone and the sensor will malfunction. Lastly, a dirty screen around the sensor may cause issues but is easily remedied by cleaning the screen.

Solutions

Holding your phone by the sides, rather than the top and bottom, can eliminate this issue of blinking if your fingers or hands are accidentally interrupting the sensor. If your sensor is simply misbehaving, try holding or swiping your finger over the sensor to help it re-adjust. If the blinking is caused by ambient light, you can turn off lights, close blinds or turn away from the source of the light if you cannot turn down the lights. This reduces reflection and can help the light from the proximity sensor to more accurately determine the location of your head while you are taking a phone call on your Android phone. However, if your phone continues to blink during calls, you should consult your provider or manufacturer to determine if there is a defect with the sensor.

How to Manage Memory on an Android Phone

View Memory Usage

1. Power on your phone and navigate to the home screen.

2. Open the tab for 'Applications,' then tap 'Settings.'

3. Tap 'SD Card & phone storage.' You see a readout of the phone's available memory as well as the available memory of any applicable memory cards.

Optimize Memory Use

4. Restart your Android phone at least once a day to ensure peak performance. Hold the power key to turn the phone off, wait a few moments, then press the power key again to reactivate the phone. Restarting is the quickest and easiest way to shut down unneeded processes running in the background.

5. Clear your search history, browser cache and temporary Internet files on a regular basis. If you use your phone primarily for browsing the Web, then cleaning up these areas will definitely sharpen the phone's performance.

6. Move pictures and videos to an external device via an SD card. Video files are large and can clutter up any phone's memory.

7. Change the settings for automatic deletion of text and picture messages. The default is 200 text and 20 picture messages, but you can reduce this number at your discretion.

8. Uninstall programs that you no longer use. Delete any unwanted wallpapers, widgets or songs. If you've recently installed a new app and you notice a sudden drop in the phone's performance, consider uninstalling the app.

9. Check your available memory on a regular basis and clean out the device's storage whenever it's close to full. Don't let memory usage issues sneak up on you.

How to Calculate Compound Miter Saw Settings Using the Miter Angle and the Bevel Angle

1. Determine the number of sides the whole workpiece has. For example, assume you want to create crown molding for a hexagonal room. You need to know your flat miter cut angle, or the deviation from a perpendicular cut; the easiest way to calculate it is to divide 180 by the number of sides the room has. In a six-sided room, the flat miter angle is 30 degrees. Label this as 'A.'

2. Determine the bevel angle, the angle at which the piece deviates from a horizontal plane. Assume, for example, that you want your crown molding to form a 30-degree angle with the ceiling. Label this bevel angle as 'B.'

3. Plug A and B into the formula 'arctan(tan(A) * cos(B).' Doing this gives you 'arctan(tan(30) * cos(30).' Arctan is the inverse of a tangent, or 'tan-1' on a calculator. If you entered the formula correctly, you should get 26.565 degrees as the miter angle.

4. Plug A and B into the formula 'arcsin(sin(A) * sin(B).' Like arctan, arcsin is the inverse of the sine function, or 'sin-1.' You should get 14.478 degrees as the bevel angle.

How to Use the Android Apps Organizer

3. Press and hold a blank area on your Android home screen. Touch 'Shortcuts' or 'Widgets' in the 'Add to Home Screen' window. Scroll to Apps Organizer and tap it.

4. Touch a label in the 'Choose Labels' window. A shortcut or widget is placed on your home screen. When you tap the shortcut or widget, a window opens with shortcuts to all applications with that label. You can tap the shortcut to open the app.

The Input Language for Android Phones

Input Language

The input language does not change your phone's keyboard to provide you with different characters or a different arrangement. It only changes the dictionary of words that the spell checking and auto-complete algorithms use. You can also set the input language for your Android phone's voice recognition feature. Like the keyboard language setting, the voice recognizer language setting defines what words the recognizer looks for.

Input Language Settings

Your phone's input language settings are located in the 'Language and Keyboard' section of the 'Settings' menu. Tap the name of the onscreen keyboard that you use in the language and keyboard menu to access that keyboard's settings. Tap 'Input Languages,' then tap any of the languages in the list that you want to use for language input. A check appears in the check box next to each selected language. Select 'Voice Input & Output Setup' from your phone's main Settings menu, then select 'Voice Recognizer' to change your phone's recognition language. Tap 'Language' and select the language you use when speaking into your phone.

Swapping Input Languages

If your phone is running Android 2.3 or if you have installed the Gingerbread keyboard, you can quickly and easily swap input languages on your phone's onscreen keyboard. Drag your finger to the left or right on the onscreen keyboard's spacebar to scroll through the list of languages that you checked in the keyboard's Input Languages menu. You can also access the keyboard's Settings menu to select new languages by tapping and holding the microphone icon on the keyboard until the Settings icon appears above it. Tap the Settings icon to open the keyboard settings screen.

Alternate Keyboards

Android's default keyboard supports a variety of accented and alternate characters, but it can take significantly longer to type with them. To type in a language that uses characters that are not readily available on the Android keyboard, download and install a different keyboard for your phone from the Android Market. Some keyboards, such as MultiLing, immediately support multiple character layouts. Others, such as GO Keyboard and Smart KeyBoard PRO, support multiple character layouts once you have downloaded the correct character layout from the Android Market.

How to Use a Ouija Table

1. Sit the participants around the Ouija board in a circle, preferably with the Ouija board set in the middle of a dining room table. Three or four people is ideal.

2. Link hands around the table. Left hands should be on top of the next person's right hand.

3. Say a prayer of your own creation, or find a prayer of protection online, to ensure nothing negative occurs as a result of your Ouija session.

4. Tell all participants to place two fingers on the planchette, or pointer. Do not apply too much pressure; just rest fingers gently on the planchette.

5. Ask questions of the 'spirit.' The planchette should move, seemingly independently of interference, around the board. The letters on the board spell out the answers as the planchette moves to them. Your board will have all the letters of the alphabet on it as well as the words 'yes,' 'no' and 'goodbye.' It also might have pictures of the sun and moon on it. When asking a spirit if it comes from the sun or moon, positive answers represent good and bad spirits, respectively.

6. Close the session if the planchette points to the word 'goodbye.' This means the spirit wants to leave, so you should let it. Similarly, if you want to end the session, use the planchette to say goodbye and vocalize it, as well.

Python for Android

Android Programming Tools

Most Android application programming is done using the Java language. Java code is compiled to bytecode that runs under Android's Java-like Dalvik Virtual Machine. In addition, Android's Native Development Kit provides access to Android's Application Programming Interface, or API, for C or C++ programmers. Programmers experienced with Microsoft's C# programming language can write Android apps using Microsoft .NET clone Mono. Mono for Android supports any .NET CLR, or Common Language Runtime, compatible language, including IronPython. IronPython is an open source, C# version of the Python interpreter.

Scripting Layer for Android (SL4A)

Although Java is the standard language for Android app development, Google engineers have developed a way for fans of interpreted, script languages to create Android apps as well. Currently, Google's Scripting Layer for Android -- SL4A -- supports Python, Perl, JRuby, Lua, BeanShell, JavaScript and Tcl. To develop apps using SL4A, you need to have the Oracle/Sun Java or OpenJDK runtime environment installed. You also need to download the Android SDK. Finally, you must download and install SL4A onto your Android device and the Android device emulator included with the Android SDK.

Python For Android

Python version 2.6.2 has been ported to run on the Android virtual machine in the Scripting Layer for Android environment. Although the latest version of Python is 3.2.2, there is still much Python application development done using older versions of the language. You can download and install the PythonForAndroid application available at 'Code.google.com' on your SL4A-ready Android device and software emulator. Google makes available sample Python scripts, Web application frameworks and a Python module for encryption as well.

Jythonroid

Jythonroid is another version of Python available for Android development. Jythonroid was derived Jython: a implementation of Python written in Java instead of C. Like PythonForAndroid, you can download Jythonroid from Google. Unfortunately, support for Jythonroid has ceased in favor of PythonForAndroid. The last version of Jythonroid still available is version 0.4, released November 2008.
