Will a Bluetooth Headset Work With My Android Tablet?

Requirements

The most obvious requirement for a Bluetooth headset connection is a Bluetooth radio. Most popular android tablets, such as the Motorola XOOM, the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Asus EEE Transformer have radios just like an Android-powered smartphone. However, some older, cheaper or more specialized models do not. This includes the Barnes & Noble Nook series of reader/tablets and most generic Chinese Android tablets made before 2010. Some tablets, especially those made by Samsung, have software modifications installed by the manufacturer, and may behave differently than other tablets and smartphones when connecting to Bluetooth headsets.

Lack of Telephony

Even newer tablets that support a Bluetooth connection will often have had the telephony capabilities of Android disabled, to discourage people from using tablets as a smartphone replacement. Any tablet that is also sold by a phone company with 3G or 4G service falls into this category. While some tablets such as the original Samsung Galaxy Tab can be modified or 'hacked' into functioning as cellphones, it may damage the Android software and void the warrantee.

Bluetooth headset-compatible apps

The most widely-used apps that feature Bluetooth headset compatibility are VOIP apps, software that allows you to make voice and video calls through the Internet (without using existing cellular or land-based telephone networks.) The most popular VOIP network is Skype, which allows you to make free calls to other Skype users, or to call cellphones or landlines for a small fee. The Skype for Android app works while connected to a Bluetooth headset, and you can download it for free from the Android Market. Fring, a similar app, is also free. Other VOIP apps that take advantage of a Bluetooth headset include the Truphone software labeled 'Tru App' in the Market, Vopium, and Nimbuzz. Other apps that rely on the built-in microphone, such as games or voice command programs, may or may not support Bluetooth input.

Connecting a Bluetooth headset to an Android tablet

Connecting a Bluetooth headset to an android tablet is the same as connecting it to an Android smartphone. Use the following instructions: hold the 'On' or 'Phone' button on your headset until it chimes or flashes to indicate the Bluetooth is in pairing mode. Press the 'Power' button on the tablet and unlock the screen. Press the 'Home' button, then the 'Menu' button. Tap 'Settings.' Tap 'Wireless and Networks.' Tap the box next to 'Bluetooth' to turn on the Bluetooth service, then tap 'Bluetooth settings.' Under 'Bluetooth devices,' tap the headset. If you get a prompt to enter a PIN, try '0000' or '1234.' If neither of these work, consult the user manual or manufacturer website for your headset.

Android Video File Types

Android

The Android operating system can be found on smartphones and tablets produced by companies like Motorola, HTC, Samsung and LG. Many common multimedia formats are native to the operating system and universally supported across all devices. All major service providers in the U.S. support devices that use Android, including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Google has set the Android operating system apart from other smartphone interfaces like the Apple iPhone and Research In Motion's BlackBerry by encouraging customization. Being open source, Android can be altered by manufacturers and thereby encourages application development.

3GPP

Android supports video files in the 3GPP format. With standards created by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, the 3GPP format is the universal standard for the creation, delivery and playback of multimedia files on 3G networks. The 3GPP format is based on the MPEG-4 standard and is widely used because of the relatively small size of its files when compared to other video formats. Videos recorded by most cellphones are stored by default in the 3GPP format.

Native Formats

The Android operating system supports video files in the MPEG-4 format. These files are typically larger than 3GPP files and are often associated with Binary Format for Scenes (BIFS). BIFS provides the presentation engine for MPEG-4 files. WebM video files are also supported by Android and are a combination of video compressed with the VP8 codec and audio compressed with the Vorbis audio codec. WebM file support is native only to Android 2.3.3 and higher. 3GPP and MPEG-4 files compressed with the H.264 AVC codec are compatible with the tablet-only Android 3.0 and higher.

Additional Formats

While multiple video file types are native to Android and universally compatible across all devices, individual smartphone or tablet models may have the ability to play additional formats. Android manufacturers have the option to customize the operating system to include phone-specific features and support types of multimedia files not native to the interface. Check with your phone's manufacturer to determine what video file formats are compatible with your Android device.

How to Listen to a Cell Phone Conversation

Listen to Conversations on Your Own Cell Phone

1. Dial the recipient's phone number, and press the 'Send' button.

2. Hold the speaker to your ear, and when someone on the other end speaks, respond accordingly. Repeat this step often during the duration of the phone call. Half of holding the conversation is listening when the other person speaks.

3. Hang up when you finish listening to the recipient.

4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 every time you want to make a phone call.

Overhear One Side of a Cell Phone Conversation

5. Wear sunglasses and bring an activity that seems innocent and very absorbing like a book.

6. Sit within 20 feet of someone having a conversation on his cell phone, open your book as though you're reading it and place it in front of your face.

7. Listen to the live half of the conversation as you pretend to read your book. Do whatever you can to make it seem like you're really reading. Laugh at your book occasionally or glance at the person on the phone like you want to share your experience.

8. Follow the person discretely if she gets up to move. Hiding behind trees and bushes will keep you anonymous and happily eavesdropping.

Eavesdrop on Both Sides of Others' Cell Phone Conversations

9. Buy a frequency counter and a radio that receives signals between 869 and 894 megahertz. These are also known as scanners.

10. Hide in the bushes at the park and turn on your frequency counter and scanner.

11. Find an analogue signal and calculate the frequency that the tower is transmitting both sides of the conversation. It is usually 45 megahertz higher than the reading on the frequency counter. This step may take a significant amount of time, because almost no one uses analogue cell phones anymore.

12. Turn the volume on the scanner very low and listen to the conversation. When you get home, throw away the spy novels that gave you this idea.

Android Java Games

Java Platform

Java is a platform that programmers use to create websites, Web-based video games and applications for different electronic devices. Google and Android app developers use Java to create different apps, including games. Your Android handset comes with the Java plug-in pre-installed so you can download and play these games, as well as other apps.

Types

You can download different Java-based games to your Android handset. Some developers offer games free, while others charge a fee. The different types of games available include puzzle games, arcade style games, first-person shooters, action and fast-paced games and longer role-playing games. In order for you to play the game, your Android must be compatible with game play. For example, games developed for use with a touchscreen will not work on a non-touchscreen handset.

Development

The Android operating system uses an open marketplace design, meaning anyone can design games for Android users. However, Google does provide some basic guidelines for development. Developers must follow the Android development guide and use Java to create games. Since the Android Market is an open marketplace, games vary in quality, but most games go through testing periods before the developer releases them for general use.

Android Market

Most Android handsets come with a limited number of Java-based games pre-installed. You can download additional games through the Android Market application on your handset. The Android Market has a Games section that includes all the available games for every Android handset. Each game includes a description, screen shots and user reviews. You can download and install games directly from the Android Market app.

What Is the Teeter App on Android?

Teeter

Teeter is a game that comes on HTC phones by default. Teeter is available with HTC's Android-based phones, including the WildFire and the Evo series that is available from Sprint, as well as Windows Mobile phones such as the Touch series. On your Android phone, simply open the apps drawer and scroll down to locate Teeter's silver ball icon. The labyrinthine game relies on the phone's G-sensor, or accelerometer, which detects the physical angles and position of your phone to augment play, rather than physical buttons or even touch controls.

Game Play

Play of Teeter is quite simple. You are attempting to move a stainless steel ball into the correct -- green -- hole while avoiding other holes in the level. There are walls against which the ball can rest or move and tipping your phone, forward, back or to the side enables smooth movement of the ball. It is the digital version of games you may have played as a kid, with the same objective and, because of the technology, with a very familiar feel. HTC phones use vibrational feedback to alert you when your ball has sunk into a hole or has made contact with the edges or walls within the game.

Availability

As of the time of publication, Teeter is only available on HTC phones out-of-the-box. This application is not available in the Android Market of Microsoft's Zune Market, which provides application downloads for Windows Phone devices. Thus, if you uninstall it from your HTC phone, you may not be able to re-install the game at a later date.

Similar Games

Although you cannot download or purchase Teeter from the Android Market, you can download similar games, which also use the G-sensor to play. For example, you can download Tilt Mini Golf for free from the Android Market. This game follows the classic rules of mini-golf while relying on your phone's accelerometer. ATilt 3D Labyrinth Free and Labyrinth Lite are free apps in the Market that follow the basic ball-in-the-hole principle. Both games use a 3D-style, wooden structure. Maze is perhaps the game that is most like Teeter with its play that doesn't add to the basic, but classic, style.

The Data Use for Pandora on Android

Audio Encoding

Unlike many other mobile streaming audio programs that encode and stream audio in a MP3 format, Pandora encodes its audio in a more compact AAC format. This allows Pandora to stream higher quality audio with less data usage. Pandora has two streaming options, a Normal Quality 64kpbs AAC stream and a High Quality 128kbps AAC stream. You can switch between these two modes in the Preferences menu within the Pandora app.

Data Usage

When audio is encoded at 64 kbps, or 64 kilobits per second, each minute of audio requires 480 kilobytes of data or about half of a megabyte to transmit. Given an average song length of three minutes, each song would require roughly 1.5 megabytes. An hour of audio would require just over 28 megabytes. Each of these values doubles if you are using high quality data encoding, resulting in more data usage.

Data Caps

Many cellular carriers put limits on the amount of data that you can receive over your phone's Internet connection. If you exceed these limits, you are typically subject to a hefty charge for each additional megabyte of data used. If you are on a 200 megabyte per month plan, you can listen to over seven hours of music at normal-quality encoding before exceeding your plan, assuming you do not use other data. On a 2 gigabyte per month plan, you could listen to almost 73 hours of music per month.

Connection Type

To avoid data charges altogether, connect to local Wi-Fi networks whenever possible. When you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, Pandora will not use your device's 3G connection. Pandora will also default to high-quality audio when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

How to get ePSXe to run most playstation games

1. First you will need to configure eSPXe. This may seem tedious and confusing, but it is rather simple. To do this you will need a few plugins that help eSPXe emulate the PlayStation properly. These are:

>Video Plugin - eSPXe comes with its own plugin, but it is recommended you search for and download Pete's OpenGL Driver (I use version 1.77).

>Sound Plugin - eSPXe also has its own sound plugin, it works decently, but you may want to search for and download P.E.Op.S. D Sound Audio Driver (I use version 1.9)

>CDROM Plugin - eSPXe has a good plugin that comes standard with it.

>PlayStation Bios - Bios are what tells the emulator how it should emulate the PlayStation, this is one of the most vitals components you need. Search for SCPH101.BIN, the most common bios.

2. Now that we have all the components we need, we have to move them to the proper folders. Locate the folder containing eSPXe (labeled ESPXE for the purpose of this article) and notice the Plugins, and Bios folders. Move your video plugin, sound plugin, and cdrom plugin (if you downloaded any other than the default) to the plugin folder. If you notice any files labeled 'delete me' or 'replace me', get rid of these.Next move your Bios file to the Bios folder, deleting any 'delete me' files as above.

3. Nearly there, dont give up now! Now all that's left is to configure eSPXe to use the plugins and Bios we've downloaded.

Run eSPXe. Click Config > then Video. You should see a window open that has a dropdown bar. Click the bar and select the video plugin that you downloaded. Click OK.

Now click Config > then Sound. Select your sound plugin from the drop down box, and click OK.

Do the same for the CDROM plugin, if you opted to download one.

Lastly, click Config > then Bios. Select the bios file that you downloaded, and click OK.

4. Finally! eSPXe is now ready to play your PlayStation CDs, ISOs, and CUE files! Click File > CDROM to run a PlayStation disc from your hardrive, or File > Run ISO to choose a ISO or CUE file to run!

What is the File Extension ADB?

Identification

A file with an ADB file extension is a Ada body file. The file extension allows your computer to recognize that the file is written in Ada, allowing it to open and utilize the program it contains.

Location

You are most likely to find a ADB file under your program files or in the location you use to save programs you create with your text editing program.

Function

An ADB file contains a set of instructions that your computer follows to complete a task written in the ADB programming language, or more simply a program. ADB programs have a variety of functions and are usually used by businesses.

Benefits

ADB files are written using English words rather than symbols or other characters, making it easier for programmers to analyze and change programs when errors arise, according to AdaCore.com (see link in References).

Considerations

To edit a ADB file, a text editor like Notepad, Wordpad or PSPad is needed. If you are not responsible for installing or editing software for your company, never remove a ADB file from your computer as it is likely to play a vital function.

Android USB Is Not Displaying the SD Card

Setting Up USB Mass Storage

Before beginning the troubleshooting process, try a standard connection. Press the 'Power' button on your phone, then unlock the screen. Connect the USB cable to the phone and the computer. Different phone handle the connection differently; some may have a pop-up window for the USB connection, others may require you to lower the notification bar (the black or white bar at the top of the screen) and tap 'USB connected.' In either case, tap 'USB mass storage' or 'USB storage mode' to initiate the mounting process.

Checking the Physical Connections

If you experience problems with the USB connection, make sure that the cable is the proper type (Mini USB for older Android phones, Micro USB for newer ones) and firmly connected at both ends. Connect a USB flash drive to your computer's USB port to make sure that the computer hardware is functioning correctly. If all else fails, remove the battery cover from the back of your phone and make sure that the MicroSD card is properly inserted into the slot - it will only fit one way, and should be flush. Some Android phones will require you to remove the phone battery before adjusting the card.

Cleaning The Card

If your computer still isn't recognizing your MicroSD card, you may need to clean the electrical contacts on the card itself. You'll need a microfiber cloth and a bottle of rubbing alcohol. Remove the card from your phone and place it on a clean surface. Place the cloth over the top of the bottle and flip it upside down for an instant, getting a small amount of alcohol on the cloth. Rub the damp part of the cloth on the gold contacts on the bottom of the card, being sure to remove and dust, dirt or residue. Wipe any excess liquid off with the dry part of the cloth. Let the card sit for five minutes to ensure that it is totally dry, then re-insert it into your phone and repeat the steps in the first section.

Alternatives

If your computer still isn't recognizing the MicroSD card and you have no replacement cards to test it with, the fault probably lies with your phone's hardware or software. At this point, you can either contact your phone service provider or manufacturer for a repair or replacement, or find an alternate means of loading and unloading data from the card. The simplest way to do the latter is to use a MicroSD card reader. Simply insert the card into the reader, then insert the USB plug or cable for the reader into your computer's USB port. You can access the MicroSD card from the 'My Computer' screen. Most MicroSD cards sold at retail locations come with a full-sized SD adapter, so you can slip the MicroSD card into the adapter and then insert the adapter into the card reader on your laptop or desktop.

OSHA Safety Audit Checklist

On-site Safety Program

OSHA requires that all businesses have an on-site safety program in place for employees. This program should include elements such as safety training, available first aid, and worker's compensation insurance in case of an injury suffered while at work. Every business should keep records of what their safety program entails and the steps that it takes to ensure worker safety. Businesses should also be able to report the number and types of worker injuries as well as what has been done to remedy the cause of the injuries on behalf of the business.

Safety Committee

Each business should have a safety committee in place to discuss safety hazards and how to remedy them as well as how to gain employee support of safety programs. A safety committee should be comprised of not only management team members but regular employees as well so that the committee can effectively communicate safety concerns that affect a broader range of employees. The safety committee should meet either once a month or once per quarter depending on the size and industry of the business.

Employee Incentives

In order to be most effective, safety procedures must be supported by a majority of employees. OSHA suggests adding employee incentives to existing safety programs, such as a bonus for a certain number of days without an on-site injury, to encourage workers to operate safely. As part of the OSHA audit checklist, supervisors should note what on-going employee incentives for safe working are in place and what the result of these programs has been, whether or not they are positively affecting employee safety performance in the workplace.

How to Reset the Check Engine on a Infiniti QX4

1. Connect your Infiniti Qx4 to a second-generation onboard diagnostics, or OBDII, scanning tool to access the trouble codes stored within your vehicle's computer system. These trouble codes will be able to tell you -- or a repair shop -- exactly what is causing the Check Engine light to turn on. If you don't own an OBDII scanning tool, take your car to a auto parts retail chain like Auto Zone. Such stores will scan the trouble codes on your car for free.

2. Research the trouble codes that the scanning tool generates. Find them in your vehicle's manual or online. One helpful website is OBD-Codes.com. Some codes may suggest a malfunction with the 'Check Engine' light. Others may point to a more serious problem that you should have addressed by a certified Infiniti repair shop. Do not attempt to reset the Check Engine light if the OBDII scanner generates this type of trouble code. Instead, take the SUV to an Infiniti-certified shop.

3. Follow the directions on your OBDII scanner to erase all the trouble codes from your car's system. This step will vary depending on the brand and model of your scanner. Employees at auto parts chain stores like AutoZone and Checkers may be able to assist with this step, or clear the codes from your car's system for you using an OBDII scanner. OBDII scanners typically have a function to turn off the instrument panel Check Engine light. Ask about this, or move to Step 4.

4. Disconnect your vehicle's battery to reset the Check Engine light. Leave it disconnected for 30 minutes.

5. Reconnect your vehicle to the battery. Turn the ignition on and see if the Check Engine light comes on as well. (You'll have to reset the clock and radio presets.)

6. Call a local Infiniti repair shop if the Check Engine light still comes on after you tried disconnecting the battery. A 'Check Engine' light that won't turn off could indicate a serious problem with your engine that requires immediate attention.

How to Learn to Read Stock Market Quotes

1. Find a good financial site online such as Yahoo! Finance to assist in learning to read stock market quotes. Review glossary terms that can assist in helping you understand things like volume indicators, bid price, daily high, daily low, as well as all other stock quote numbers. Before you invest, you must understand what these numbers mean and where they are coming from. Until you grasp the concept of these terms, you won't be a successful trader.

2. Use technical charts in order to learn to read stock market quotes. There are several technical indicators that can signal a bullish or bearish event for short, medium, and long term periods. You should only use technical indicators in combination with other factors including fundamental analysis.

3. Research overall market trends that can help you learn to read stock market quotes. No matter how bullish or bearish an individual stock may appear, it is virtually impossible to move against the overall trend of the market. Understanding the moves in the entire economic landscape can help assist in your analysis.

4. Pay attention to annual shareholder meetings, quarterly financial reports, dividend announcements and other key news as part of your analysis. While this information may not immediately impact the movement of a stock price, overtime it will normally be reflected. How to Auto Convert Java to AJAX

1. Open or create a new Java application on your computer. It must be based on Swing to function properly. AjaxSwing will develop, debug and run your file as a functional AJAX application without changing its code. AjaxSwing will also make it compatible with any type of browser.

2. Copy your Java application and save it to your Web server directory, but make sure you assign the proper permission so that it is visible to the browser you are using. Also, copy all your image files to the AjaxSwing's images directory. If one doesn't exist in your Web server directory, create it.

3. Open the Java application in any browser once it gets loaded on your AjaxSwing platform. Your Java file should now be fully converted into AJAX, and all of its components should function as normal. Check for error messages when you run the Java application. Android SDK Error Device Not Found

What It Means

The 'Device Not Found' error in Android SDK indicates that the program does not recognize your phone when it is connected by a USB cable. You cannot transfer files or other data between the Android SDK program on your computer and your phone. In addition, the phone will not appear in the list of devices in the Android SDK device manager. This error can occur even when all other functionality in the phone and the program is in good working order and does not effect other parts of the phone or program.

Why It Happens

Most of the time, a 'Device Not Found' error occurs after you install Android SDK updates. Some updates change the location of the Android Debug Bridge,or ADB, tool, which is responsible for communication between the operating system and the phone. The second most common reason you will receive a 'Device Not Found' error is a faulty USB port on the computer causing bad or incomplete data transfers.

Repairing By Reconfiguing the Path

You should attempt to reconfigure the ADB tool path first. This will point the program to the tool location and allow the program to recognize your phone. Right-click on the 'My Computer' icon in Android SDK, and click 'Properties.' Select the 'Advanced' tab, and click 'Environment Variables.' If the variable path reads 'android-sdk/tools', you can likely fix a 'Device Not Found' error by clicking 'Add New Variable' and entering 'android-sdk/platform-tools.' If the path already says 'android-sdk/platform-tools,' you will have to follow the troubleshooting directions in the next section.

Repairing By Changing the USB Port

If a faulty USB port is the issue, you must disconnect the USB cord from the computer and restart Android SDK. Place the USB cord in a different port, and plug the other end into the phone. If this does not solve the problem, contact Android for additional assistance.

How to Program Androids for Beginners

1. Open a Web browser and download the Android SDK for your computer. The installer sets up the Android development environment, and creates an emulator you use to test your programs.

2. Open a second browser tab and download the Eclipse software from the company's official website. Eclipse does not have an installer. Instead, extract the zip file contents to a directory such as 'C:\Eclipse' to store the files. You use 'eclipse.exe' to run the software.

3. Double-click the 'eclipse.exe' file downloaded in step two to start the programming environment. Click the 'File' menu item in Eclipse and click 'New,' then 'Project.' The 'New Project' wizard opens in which you configure your Android SDK project.

4. Click 'Android Project' in the list of project types, then click 'Next.' In the next screen, choose the Android version you want to target and type a name for your new project. Click 'Finish,' and Eclipse sets up your new Android project setup.

5. Double-click the 'src' folder to open a list of Java source code files. In the beginning of your project, only one Java source code file is listed. Double-click the file to open the source code.

6. Add some code to the main Java source code file. For instance, the following code displays a message to your users:TextView helloView = new TextView(this);

helloView.setText('Hello Android World');

setContentView(helloView);

7. Click the Eclipse 'Save' button to save the code changes. Click the 'Run' button to view the new project in the Eclipse emulator. The emulator looks like an Android cell phone or tablet. Click your project name to see the message displayed in the emulator.

What Does Droid Have That Compares With Siri?

Robin

The Robin app from Magnifis (see Resources) bills itself as “the Siri Challenger.” It originally built a following with its voice-activated driving services like directions, finding the nearest coffee shop or providing traffic information for nearby routes. Since its launch, the service has added in the ability to read and update social media statuses, set reminders and place calls. The one downside to this app is that about half of user reviews mention it has difficulty understanding you when writing a text or email.

Vlingo

If you’re looking for an app with just a core set of features and place a high value on accuracy of search results, Vlingo is likely a good fit (see Resources). The app has a menu that can be accessed at any time from your Android device, and it provides quick searches for directions, phone numbers and nearby results. Many user reviews say Vlingo’s suggestions for nearby places like restaurants often list the best nearby location. The service is also adding in support for reservations through OpenTable, Kayak and Fandango.

Skyvi

When it comes to feature-rich Siri rivals, few can boast a broader offering than Skyvi from BlueTornado (see Resources). Skyvi can locate and call your contacts, find restaurants and get directions, tell you weather information, play your music and read aloud your text messages, emails and social media statuses. When it launched, Skyvi had many issues around its voice recognition. The company provided a major update in April 2013. Most user reviews since then have been positive, though some still note that Skyvi has trouble understanding them.

Choosing Your App

Reliability and features are the two main factors you’ll want to consider when choosing your Siri-like app. Thankfully, as of August 2013, Robin, Vlingo and Skyvi are all completely free services. Robin provides a good middle ground for voice recognition and feature set, especially for navigation. Vlingo is best suited to helping you find what you need, but won’t do things like play your music. Skyvi is a good choice if you want access to a lot of different services and won’t be frustrated by having to repeat yourself.

Android 'C' Programming

Android SDK

Google provides a standard set of tools that allow programmers to create apps for the Android platform in the form of its Software Development Kit, or SDK. This includes an Android system simulator for testing projects and the packaging tools for creating a file that Android can execute from the project's source code. The SDK also includes libraries for allowing apps written in Java to interact with the advanced features of the Android operating system.

Android NDK

Developers who want to create apps, or app components, in the C programming language can download Google's Native Development Kit, or NDK. This is a collection of libraries similar to the ones contained in the SDK. However they are in the C programming language instead of Java. Developers can use these libraries to develop for Android in C in the same way that the SDK's libraries allow for development in Java.

Using NDK

The NDK is not functional as an independent development kit. Instead, it is an extension of the SDK. Developers have to install the SDK as a platform within which to download, use, and update other development components. These include the NDK. Developers still use the SDK's tools to create the '.apk' packages that Android runs as apps, the SDK's simulator to test the apps and the SDK's tools for transferring the .apk packages onto an actual Android device.

C or Java

The Java language works by compiling source code into an intermediary form called bytecode, which system specific JVMs translate into the machine code the device actually executes. In this process, the JVM will automatically optimize the machine code it produces. This saves the programmer the time of trying to optimize code. However, programmers who work in the C language directly control what the compiled machine code will look like. This allows app developers who want to exert this detailed level of control over their code to do so. In addition, it allows developers who have already written a substantial amount of code for a project in C to quickly port it to Android.

How to Improve WiFi Reception

1. Change the location of your router so it's in a more centralized location in your home. Move it closer to your main computer or place it in the middle of the home if several computers use the same router to connect to the Internet.

2. Adjust the computer to see where you have the best reception of the WiFi signal. There are some cases where all you need to do is move the computer a few inches in one direction to improve the signal.

3. Remove any large pieces of metal that might be around your wireless router or your computer, including mirrors. Metal objects can block the signal, but this can be avoided by moving them to another room in the house.

4. Move cell phones, microwaves and anything else that operates on a frequency away from your wireless router. If the frequencies compete against each other, it can block your WiFi signal.

5. Play with the antennae on your wireless router to see if they're in the proper position for a strong WiFi signal. In some cases you may need to bend the antennae slightly to see an improved or better signal.

6. Use a repeater such as those from Belkin to improve your WiFi reception almost immediately. It takes only a few minutes to install the software and get your repeater working.

Authentication Vs. Validation

Authentication

Whether you know it or not, you have used authentication many times on the Internet. Every time you enter a user name and a password to access a site, email or forum, you've authenticated your identity.

Networking

User IDs and passwords may be the most common form of authentication, but they are not the only one. Networks, servers and websites can all be authenticated for added security.

Secure Certificates

You can tell when a site is using increased security protocols, or authentication, when you see 'https' in the address, as opposed to 'http.'

Differences

Authentication allows a server to know that a user or another server is who or what it says it is. Validation is a way for a Web designer to make sure her code is valid--that is, able to be read by a variety of Web browsers and operating systems.

Standards for Validation

Validation standards are created by the W3, or the World Wide Web Consortium. The W3 offers a code validator on site, and it will alert you if there are problems with the code, such as forgetting to close a tag, invalid or missing XML (Extensible Markup Language) declarations or doctype concerns. You can upload files or simply enter a URL to use the validator.

How to Replace a Golf or Jetta 2.0 Timing Belt

Accessing the Timing Belt

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure--remove fuse No. 28 from the fuse box, start the engine, look for it to stall and crank it for another three seconds.

2. Drain the engine coolant into a large container by removing the drain fitting at the radiator with pliers. Disconnect the coolant reservoir's hoses, and unbolt and remove the reservoir.

3. Disconnect the fuel return and supply lines and the vacuum hose for the leak detection pump by loosening their hose clamps. Mark the hoses so you can reinstall them correctly later.

4. Remove the spark plugs--pull out each spark plug wire by the boot, and remove the plugs with a ratchet and spark plug socket.

5. Remove the drive belt by turning the tensioner with a long 15 mm wrench to relieve the tension.

6. Unclip and remove the upper timing belt cover from the engine.

7. Apply the parking brake, and block the rear wheels. Raise the car's front end, supporting it on jack stands, and remove the right front wheel.

Removing the Timing Belt

8. Take off the engine under-cover and the lower fender apron.

9. Rotate the engine clockwise with a breaker bar and socket until the No. 1 cylinder is at top down center and the camshaft sprocket mark aligns with the mark on the rear timing belt cover.

10. Loosen the crankshaft drive sprocket's retaining bolt and the crankshaft pulley bolts; hold the pulley with a strap wrench as you do this to keep it from turning. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

11. Raise a jack with a block of wood on it underneath the engine to support it, then remove the passenger-side engine mount. Unbolt and remove the passenger-side engine mount.

12. Detach the center and lower timing belt covers by removing their bolts.

13. Release the timing belt tensioner by loosening the retaining nut and letting the tensioner rotate. Remove the timing belt.

Installing the Timing Belt

14. Loop the new timing belt under the crankshaft sprocket and engage the belt teeth within the sprocket. Maneuver the belt into position on the idler pulley, water pump and camshaft sprocket, then install it around the tensioner.

15. Tension the belt by using snap-ring pliers to turn the tensioner counterclockwise until the upper marks align; make sure all the belt's slack is at the tensioner roller before you do this. Tighten the tensioner lock nut to 15 ft-pounds.

16. Rotate the crankshaft two complete turns. Reset the No. 1 cylinder to the TDC position, and check the alignment marks again. Adjust the timing belt tension if needed.

17. Reinstall the lower and center timing belt covers, followed by the engine mount support bracket and passenger-side engine mount; use new bolts with the mount.

18. Install all other components in reverse order of removal--the upper timing belt cover, drive belt, spark plugs, fuel and vacuum lines and coolant reservoir. Refill the engine coolant, and reconnect the fuel pump fuse.

Apple Cider Vinegar Organic Weight Loss

Get Informed

Knowing the benefits or detriments of any of your actions helps to motivate you to either do them or stop doing them. Complete a bit of research to find out what apple cider vinegar has been successful in treating for centuries. Look up testimonials of individuals who have lost weight on apple cider vinegar. Set a goal for yourself based on the facts you discover. Weight loss with any natural remedy is slower than gimmicks and unsafe methods. Expect realistic results based on the experience of others.

Add Water

People who drink apple cider vinegar regularly might be able to down their portions without the aid of water. For the beginner, adding water greatly helps the process. Adjustment to the taste happens over time and is aided by water. Make sure to use a spring water or alkaline water to get the most of your drinking experience.

Three Times Daily

Add two tsp. of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and drink during each meal. Sip it slowly as you eat. Sipping aids in digestion, even though the temptation is to just down the concoction due to the taste. Don't expect drastic, immediate results from adding vinegar to your diet. This natural cure works slowly but very beneficially over time. Stay in it for the long haul, in spite of the taste.

Try Honey Too

Adding honey to your apple cider vinegar drink makes it sweeter and adds other benefits to your diet. Try mixing the two together. Try agave nectar if the honey is not working for you. Avoid adding sugar as sugar is a toxic food and counterbalances the health effects of adding vinegar to your diet in the first place.

What Is an Android Rosie Utility?

Rosie

HTC used the name 'Rosie' as the unofficial title of the company's custom smartphone and tablet interface, initially released in 2009. Upon its release on the HTC Hero smartphone, the interface became known as HTC Sense. If you use one of the devices that initially adopted HTC Sense, you may see active utilities in the 'Running Services' menu that use the name 'Rosie,' referring to a component of HTC Sense.

Sense Basics

Google's Android operating system is an open source mobile interface that allows developers to customize it to create a different user experience on each Android device. This allows two different Android smartphones running the same core version of the operating system to appear and function uniquely. HTC Sense does not replace Android, but augments it with features that HTC deems useful. It is native to HTC devices and cannot be removed without going through the rooting process and terminating your warranty.

Scenes

HTC Sense allows you to create different layouts, or scenes, on your smartphone or tablet. A layout can be set to change automatically based on the time of day or simply exist until you choose to activate it. Scenes allow you to save settings for specific purposes, so icons and preferred applications will be readily accessible when you're at work, at home or on the road. For example, a work scene could consist of a more professional home screen wallpaper, with icons for email and office applications moved to a prominent location.

Additional Features

HTC Sense builds on the Android operating system by offering many nuances, such as native social networking support via its Friend Stream application. Friend Stream combines social networks into one interface, with an optional home screen widget. Other features include custom widgets, silencing your ringer by turning the smartphone over and the device recognizing it's in an enclosed area and ringing louder. The interface organizes recent activity around the contact that it's associated with, allowing you to quickly go back and review any interactions.

How to Upload Android to an HTC HD2

1. Download the HTC HD2 Android AOSP file from various HD2 ROM sites, such as HD2ROMs.com. Unzip the ROM file once you have it on your computer.

2. Remove the HD2 microSD card from the smartphone and insert it into a compatible card reader attached to your computer. Both built-in and external card readers work for this application.

3. Click 'Start' and 'Computer.' Drag the extracted Android ROM folder to your microSD card. Insert the card in your HD2 and restart the phone.

4. Click 'Start' on your phone. Click 'File Explorer.' Click your SD card in the File Explorer window to access the files. You should see the data.img, CLRXAD.exe and HARET.exe files in the folder.

5. Tap 'CLRXAD.exe' and wait a few minutes for the program to execute. This file enables all sound options for the Android operating system. If you do not run this file, Android still loads but you are unable to hear or be heard by anyone on the phone and you will not hear any other audio.

6. Tap 'HARET.exe' to load Android on your HTC HD2 Windows Mobile device. This application loads the Android image file on your SD card. Your initial installation may take up to 10 minutes so you'll need to wait for the process to complete before you can use Android. Windows Mobile remains unchanged on your internal phone memory, so you can reboot to load back in to Windows if you want to. You'll need to load these two EXE files every time you want to boot your HTC HD2 in to Android.

Alcoholism Sleep

Significance

Alcoholism impacts the alcoholic's sleep by allowing the alcohol to act as a stabilizer, thus allowing the person to sleep. When an alcoholic does not drink prior to going to bed or trying to sleep, the craving for alcohol causes sleep disturbances.

Effects

The primary effect on an alcoholic of not being able to remain asleep is that those trying to stop drinking oftentimes return to the habit to induce better sleep. Alcoholism should thus be treated by a physician to help stave off the negative impacts associated with stopping or reducing alcohol consumption and the effects of the modification on sleep.

Considerations

Those battling alcoholism should consider taking a sleeping aide to offset the sleep disturbances caused by drinking. Alcoholics can use medication on a regular, temporary or interim basis to induce sleep and help remain asleep. Importance is placed on finding the right prescription sleeping medication that can be used by an alcoholic who continues to drink on a routine basis.

Hidden Android Apps

App List

If you are new to Android phones, you might not realize that the home page you see is just an overlay. It provides a quick way to access your favorite apps, without having to scroll through the entire list. The rest of your apps are made visible once you click on the 'Applications' icon in the bottom left corner. It is the one that looks like a tiny square with dots. Drag your finger across the screen to choose a blank page, then tap 'Applications.' Hold your finger down on an app to transfer it to that page.

Manage Apps

Open 'Manage Applications' for a more comprehensive list of your applications. This screen shows you which apps came from the market, saved on the SD card or currently running in the background. Tap 'Downloaded' and market apps are organized in alphabetical order. Tapping 'All' displays every app, even those you didn't realize you had. Tapping an app also allows you to clear default settings, clear its cache or uninstall it completely.

App Hiders

This type of app is designed to obscure private information from public view. Photos and videos can be hidden easily, but to hide apps the phone needs to be rooted. If you suspect apps are being hidden by another app, you may not be able to determine which one it is. Some of the more sophisticated versions install themselves as a 'Volume Slider' or 'Picture Viewer' to hide its true function. In addition to entering a password, you might have to press and hold a specific spot just to launch it.

App Reinstallation

It only takes about two taps to uninstall an app, so it is possible to uninstall it by accident. Tap 'Market' and then the magnifying glass to search for the missing app. If it was a previous purchase, you'll find it quickly in the Menu under 'My Apps.' Install the app the same way you did previously and it will be shown under Applications along with all the others.

How to Uninstall Apps From an Android 2.1

1. Go to the Android home screen, tap the Menu button, then tap the Settings button.

2. Open the Applications section, then tap the Manage button.

3. Tap on the app that you want to uninstall, then tap Uninstall.

4. Tap the Home button once the app is uninstalled; this usually only takes a few seconds to complete.
