How to Get a Droid to Open an APK File

1. Hit the “Menu” button on your Droid, select “Settings,” then go to “Applications.” Touch “Unknown Sources” to allow installation of non-Market, or third-party, applications.

2. Load the APK file onto the SD card for your Droid. You can do this by navigating to the website on your Droid and downloading it to the card. Or, remove the SD card from your phone, insert it into your personal computer, navigate to the third-party website, download the APK file to the SD card and return the card to your phone.

3. Navigate to the Android Marketplace on your Droid. Hit the magnifying glass to bring up the search field and enter “APK.” Select “APK Installer” to bring up a list of apps.

4. Select and install one of the APK installers from the list. For the best results, select the app with the highest number of stars.

5. Launch the APK installer on your Droid to display the APK file on the SD card. Select the APK file to open and install the program.
