How to Jail Break the HTC Hero

1. Go to your computer. Download the AndRoot application from TheUnlockr.com. This rooting application automates many of the processes needed to successfully open up the security on the phone, to establish the user as the root user in the operating system.

2. Connect the Hero to your computer with the data cable. Slide down the Hero notification panel and tap 'USB Connected.' Tap 'Mount' to mount your SD card. Return to your computer. Click 'Start' and 'Computer.' Find the Hero's card in the list of removable media. Drag the Androot.apk file to your phone's SD card.

3. Open the file manager you're using on the Hero. Navigate to the base directory of the sd card. Tap the Androot.apk file to install the rooting application to your phone. Tap 'Install.' Launch the program once the application installation process completes.

4. Tap 'Root' to jailbreak your HTC Hero. You will receive full access to the phone's operating system functions once the process completes.
