My Android Is Detecting Low Storage Memory

Low Storage Warning

When your Android device gets low on its storage space, a warning icon appears in the status bar at the top of your display, and if you drag the status bar down to display notifications, you see the full text of the warning. This warning means that you're nearly out of space on your phone for storing data, like pictures, emails, apps and videos, and you may soon run out of space. While this won't immediately have a significant impact on your phone's performance, unless you take action to increase the available storage space, your phone will eventually be unable to save new data like photos, and it may even stop accessing email in apps because it doesn't have room to download the messages.

Move Apps

One of the more recent improvements to the Android OS is the ability to store apps on a storage card and not just on the phone's internal memory. Since many mobile devices have somewhat limited storage space, this can be an enormous help, especially if you have significant USB storage available or a large 16GB or 32GB microSDHC card. On the home screen, press the 'Menu' button and tap 'Manage apps.' Next tap 'USB Storage' or the 'SD card,' depending on which one your device uses. You see every app that your phone can store on its own internal memory or on external memory; apps with check marks are on the USB or SD card storage, and apps without check marks are on your phone's own storage. Tap an app to bring up information about it, and then tap 'Move to SD card' or 'Move to USB storage' to change its location. This can free up a great deal of space on your device.

Uninstall Apps

Another option for freeing up space is to simply remove apps entirely. Sometimes if you look through the entire list of apps you've downloaded, you'll realize that you don't even use many of them anymore, so uninstalling them will free up space and possibly even processing power for other apps. Go to the home screen and press the 'Menu' button, and tap 'Manage apps,' then 'Downloaded.' You see all the apps you've downloaded to your device, and if you want to uninstall one, just tap it and then tap 'Uninstall.'

Remove Other Files

You can also remove files you've saved onto the phone, but this process is varies depending on what files you have and what apps you've used to get them on your phone. You can free up a lot of space by deleting old photos and videos you don't need anymore, and those are available in the Gallery app. If you've downloaded various files using your browser or an email app, you can find those by tapping the applications option on the home screen and then tapping 'Downloads.' Deleting other files may require that you check the help files or online documentation for the apps you used to save the files to your device. Some of the files you find may be stored on your device's USB or SD card storage, and deleting those won't free up any internal storage.
