How to Make the HTC Touch Pro 2 Into an Android Phone

Installing Android

1. Install an SD card. Your phone may not already have an SD memory card. If not, you must install one in order to save some of the downloads you need onto the phone. To install the SD card, turn off the handset pressing the power button on the top panel. Remove the back cover by sliding it upward. Turn the device over with the LCD facing up and pry open the card slot. Insert the SD card with its gold contacts facing down into the top slot. Close the slot with your thumbs and flip the phone over to put the battery cover back on. Then turn the phone back on.

2. Set the phone to CDMA Only. If you are using a CDMA service - Sprint, Telus, Verizon or U.S. Cellular - you need to ensure you are on a 'CDMA Only' setting and not set to 'Global.' To do this go to 'Start,' 'Settings,' 'Personal' and 'Phone.' Search for the 'Network' tab. You can then make the change there.

3. Download a build. Go online to Project Android downloads on your computer. Click the link to the appropriate CAB file and download it. Once it's downloaded, hook up your handset to your computer and copy the files directly to the root of your SD card.

4. Run the CAB file. Use your file explorer on your phone and navigate to the card and run the CAB program. Install the program on your storage card. Once it is finished installing, go to the 'Start' menu and find the file named 'Android Project' and click it. This will load the software onto your phone. It will take some time.

5. Configure your phone. Once loaded, accept the prompt for configuration. Your phone will vibrate and Android will start its booting process, which will also take some time. Once it is done, your HTC Touch Pro2 will be running Android OS.

6. Watch for updates. Check online fairly often for the latest builds for getting the most out of your operating system as features will be added periodically.
