Android Java Games
Java Platform
Java is a platform that programmers use to create websites, Web-based video games and applications for different electronic devices. Google and Android app developers use Java to create different apps, including games. Your Android handset comes with the Java plug-in pre-installed so you can download and play these games, as well as other apps.
Types
You can download different Java-based games to your Android handset. Some developers offer games free, while others charge a fee. The different types of games available include puzzle games, arcade style games, first-person shooters, action and fast-paced games and longer role-playing games. In order for you to play the game, your Android must be compatible with game play. For example, games developed for use with a touchscreen will not work on a non-touchscreen handset.
Development
The Android operating system uses an open marketplace design, meaning anyone can design games for Android users. However, Google does provide some basic guidelines for development. Developers must follow the Android development guide and use Java to create games. Since the Android Market is an open marketplace, games vary in quality, but most games go through testing periods before the developer releases them for general use.
Android Market
Most Android handsets come with a limited number of Java-based games pre-installed. You can download additional games through the Android Market application on your handset. The Android Market has a Games section that includes all the available games for every Android handset. Each game includes a description, screen shots and user reviews. You can download and install games directly from the Android Market app.
