Android Keyboard Tips
Internet Functions
Like other smartphones, your Android-based phone includes a built-in Internet browser. To open the browser, press and hold the 'Search' key and press the 'B' key. To open the bookmarks file, press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'B' key. To enter the find function, press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'F' key. Press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'I' key to zoom into a page or the 'O' key to zoom out of a page. To access your phone's social network sharing menu, press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'S' key. Press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'R' key to refresh the current website you are viewing. To go back one website, press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'J' key or the 'K' key to go forward to a website. To open your phone's Internet browser settings, press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'S' key. To view your browsing history, press and hold the 'Menu' key and the 'H' key. Press and hold the 'Search' key then press the 'Y' key, to access the video application YouTube.
Navigation and Deletion Tips
Press the 'Spacebar' button to page down the document or website you are viewing on your smartphone. Press and hold the 'Shift' key then press the 'Spacebar' to move up the document or website you are viewing. Press and hold the 'ALT' key and press the 'Spacebar' to open the 'Special Character' menu and insert a special character. To delete the character to the right of your cursor, press and hold the 'Shift' key then press the 'DEL' key. Press and hold the 'ALT' key and press the 'DEL' key to delete an entire line.
Moving Around a Document or Page
To activate the caps lock on your Android-based phone, press the 'Shift' key twice to turn on caps lock and once to turn it off. Press and hold the 'ALT' key and roll the trackball to the left to move the cursor to the beginning of a line. Press and hold the 'ALT' key and roll the trackball to the right to move the cursor to the end of a line. To move the cursor to the top of a page, press and hold the 'ALT' key and roll the trackball up. To move the cursor to the bottom of a page, press and hold the 'ALT' key and roll the trackball down.
Cutting, Copying and Pasting Text
When cutting, copying and pasting text, your Android-based phone uses a set of shortcuts also found on Windows-based systems. Press and hold the 'Shift' key and roll your phone's trackball to the right or left to highlight text to cut or copy. To highlight all the text, press the 'Menu' key and press the 'A' key. To copy the highlighted text, press and hold the 'Menu' key and press the 'C' key to copy the text to your phone's clipboard. Press and hold the 'Menu' key and press the 'X' key to cut the highlighted text. To paste text, navigate to the document or email you want to paste the text into, tap at the location where you want the text then press and hold the 'Menu' key and press the 'V' key.
Email Functions
The Android operating system uses Google's Gmail as its default email application. To open Gmail, press and hold the 'Search' key then press the 'G' key. To move forward one message while viewing an email, press the 'F' key. To reply to the email you are viewing, press the 'R' key. Press the 'A' key to reply to an email containing multiple recipients. To refresh your Gmail 'Inbox,' press and hold the 'Menu' key and press the 'U' key. To create a new email, press and hold the 'Menu' key and press the 'C' key. To store an email in an archive folder, press the 'Y' key. If viewing a list of emails from your Gmail 'Inbox' list, scroll with the trackball, stop on the email you want to view then press 'Enter' to open the email. Press and hold the 'ALT' key and roll the trackball up to move to the top of your Inbox. Roll the trackball down to move to the bottom of the Inbox.
Application Tips
To open your Android-based phone's 'Contacts' application, press and hold the 'Search' key then press the 'C' key. Press and hold the 'Search' key then press the 'I' key to open your phone's built-in 'Calendar' application. To access the 'Maps' program, press and hold the 'Search' key then press the 'M' key. To send and receive text messages, press and hold the 'Search' key then press the 'S' key.
