How to Get Google Maps to Work on a Droid With the Froyo Update



1. Download and install a Terminal Emulator application from the Android Market (see Resources). Tap the 'Market' icon on your phone, search for 'Terminal Emulator' choose an emulator from the list and tap on the listing. Tap 'Install,' then accept the permissions to download and install the app. Some apps may have a charge that will apply to your mobile phone bill. Look before you install.

2. Open the application drawer and scroll down to the terminal emulator app. Tap the icon. Wait for the terminal emulator to open. Type 'su,' then press the 'Enter' button.

3. Type these lines, pressing 'Enter' after each line:mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /systemrm system/app/Maps.apk/system/bin/sh pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.mapsmount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /systemsync

4. Close the terminal application, then tap on the Market app again. Search for 'Google Maps' and tap on the listing. Tap 'Update,' then approve the permissions. Wait for the update to complete. If the update fails, reboot your phone and try again.
