How to Turn Your HTC Android Into a WiFi Hotspot

1. Open your device's main menu. Scroll down the list of applications until you see 'Wi-Fi Hotspot.' Depending on which HTC device you have, your Wi-Fi hotspot application may be listed as 'Portable Wi-Fi hotspot' under the 'Wireless & networks' section in your 'Settings' menu. Open the application by tapping it once. An introduction screen with some basic information appears.

2. Tap the 'OK' button to enter the application. Choose a name for your network and enter it in the 'Router name (SSID)' text field. Enter any name you like, or keep the default name.

3. Choose a type of security for your Wi-Fi hotspot from the 'Security' drop-down list. You can opt to have no security for your network, but this allows other people to use your device's Internet connection. Enter your chosen password in the 'Password' text field, or leave the default password as is.

4. Switch on your portable Wi-Fi hotspot by tapping the check box at the top of your screen. A status message under the check box area updates you with the progress of your hotspot. Your device notification bar displays a message indicating that the hotspot is active. Your screen then displays a message instructing you with the details of how to connect to the hotspot on another device, including the network name and password you chose.

5. Connect to your network. Turn on the Wi-Fi and find the list of available networks on the device you wish to connect to the Internet through your HTC Android. Select the network name you chose in Step 2 and enter your chosen password when your computer prompts you for it.
