How to Use Android as Internet for Laptop

Tethering

1. Connect the Android device's USB cable to a free USB slot on your laptop and to the USB slot on the device. This slot is usually on the device's bottom edge.

2. Press the 'Home' button to reach the device's 'Home' screen. This button has the image of a house on it. You can also use the 'End call' button on a phone.

3. Select the 'Apps' icon on your device's screen, and then select 'Settings.' Typically, the 'Apps' icon is close to the bottom of the screen and is the image of four squares. This is the icon that displays all the apps available on your device.

4. Select 'Wireless & networks,' then 'Tethering & portable hotspot.'

5. Select 'USB Tethering' to enable it.

7. Select the 'Apps' icon on your device's screen, and then select 'Settings.' Typically the 'Apps' icon is close to the bottom of the screen and is the image of four squares. This is the icon that displays all the apps available on your device.

8. Select 'Wireless & networks,' then 'Tethering & portable hotspot,' then 'Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings,' then 'Configure Wi-Fi hotspot.'

9. Name the Wi-Fi network anything you want in the network name field, or simply use the default name.

10. Select the security type you want to use and type in a password in the password field. WPA2 is the most secure option and requires a password that is at least 8 characters long. You could select 'Open,' which doesn't require a password, but that could become a serious security risk since anyone within the network's range could log in.

11. Select 'Save.'

12. Select 'Portable Wi-Fi hotspot' to check the box beside the option, and begin broadcasting the network.

13. Click the network icon in your laptop's notification area. This is in the bottom-right corner of your laptop's display, and you can find it by hovering your mouse over the icons in that area and seeing the icon name pop up.

14. Select the wireless network your Android device is broadcasting. This will be whatever name you typed in on your phone or the default name if you used that. If you can't find the network, you may need to refresh the list by clicking the icon with two arrows near the top-right corner of the network window, or you may need to move closer to your phone if it's some distance away.

15. Click 'Connect.' If you decided to use a secure network, Windows will prompt you to type in the password.
