How to Remove the Generic Downloader Virus

Delete Infected Processes

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

2. Click on the 'Task Manager,' and the click on the 'Processes' tab.

3. End all of the processes listed under the 'Stop Generic Processes' header at the link below. To end a process, simply right-click on it and then select 'End Process.'

Delete Infected DLL Files

4. Click on the 'Start' menu.

5. Click on 'Run.'

6. Type 'cmd' (without the quotation marks) into the open box and click 'OK.' The Command Prompt will open.

7. Type the following into the Command Prompt and press ENTER. Note that 'SampleDLLName' should be replaced with the name listed under the 'Get rid of Trojan Generic DLLs' header at the link below.'regsvr32 /u SampleDLLName.dll'

Delete Infected Files

8. Click on the 'Start' menu.

9. Click on 'Search Files and Folders.'

10. Search for and delete the files listed under the 'Delete Trojan Generic Files' header at the link below. To delete a file, simply right-click on it and select 'Delete.'

Delete Infected Registry Keys

11. Click on the 'Start' menu.

12. Click on 'Run.'

13. Type 'regedit' (without the quotation marks) into the open box and click 'OK.' The Registry Editor window will open.

14. Locate the registry keys listed under the 'Remove Trojan Generic registry keys' header at the link below and delete them. The registry keys can be found in the left pane of the Registry Editor and they can be deleted by right-clicking on them and selecting 'Delete.'
