Text and Drive
Text and Drive was designed for use in automobiles, but it works on most smartphones, regardless of where you’re using them. Text and Drive reads your incoming text messages aloud and lets you dictate your responses. Its simple user interface is based around a large button centrally located on your phone’s screen, making it easy to enable and disable the voice-recognition engine when you’re driving or otherwise occupied. Text and Drive costs around $1.50 and requires Android 1.5 or later. It’s 1.8 MB in size and was developed by Xenom Apps.
Speech to Text
Like all speech-to-text apps on Google Android devices, Speech to Text makes use of Android’s onboard speech-recognition engine. The application’s graphical user interface lets you choose whether you want to convert speech to text, or vice versa. After you’ve spoken your message, Speech To Text lets you then choose whether you’d like to send it via SMS or email, or export it to another application. Speech To Text is a free application. It’s 1.2 MB in size, requires Android 1.5 or later, and was developed by Xenom Apps.
Walk and Text
Walk and Text is a variation on traditional text messaging applications in that it uses your smartphone’s built-in camera to show you where you’re going while you have your head down texting. It also has a robust text-to-speech feature called Voice2Text that lets you dictate your messages and send them via SMS or email. Walk and Text’s user interface offers some handy customization tools like an available backlit virtual keyboard for nighttime texting and a character counter that displays and reads aloud the length of your message. Walk and Text is 476KB in size, costs around $2 and requires Android 1.5 or later. It's a product of Incorporate Apps.
