How to Run Android on a Samsung Focus

1. Turn on your Samsung Focus and connect it to your computer by using the USB data transfer cable that came with the phone.

2. Open your Web browser, navigate to sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/2010-02-20/ and click the 'haretinstall.zip' link to download the archive to your computer. Extract the haretinstall archive on your hard disk drive. A folder called 'andboot' containing the haret.exe, zImage, initrd.gz and default.txt files will be created.

3. Copy the entire andboot folder to the root of your Samsung's SD card. Verify if the haret.exe, zImage, initrd.gz and default.txt files are inside the andboot folder on the SD card. Android is unable to run without any of these files.

4. On your Web browser, navigate to filecrop.com/1.25-v32kernel.zip.html and click the '1.0-v32kernel.zip' link to download the Android operating system. Save the file to your hard disk and rename it as 'androidinstall.tar.' Copy androidinstall.tar to the andboot folder on the SD card.

5. Disconnect the Samsung Focus smartphone from your computer; use its file browser to navigate to the andboot folder on the SD card and run the HaRET executable.

6. Select option one to install the Android operating system. Select 'Yes' to wipe and install the system. Select 'Yes' to wipe and install the data. Note that this will not modify the Windows Mobile operating system and will not alter your NAND.

7. Select option nine to quit and restart the Samsung Focus. Your phone will run the Android operating system, but only until the next reboot. If you restart your phone, it will boot only the Windows Mobile operating system.
