How to Use Open Android With Pandigital Novel

Remove Cover

1. Turn off your Pandigital Novel e-reader. Move the “Power” slider toward the edge of the device, wait three seconds and then tap the “Power Off” option that appears on the Device Options menu.

2. Place the Pandigital Novel device face down on a soft surface and position it so the Pandigital logo appears upside-down to you. Placing the device on a soft surface helps protect the screen.

3. Remove the back cover from the e-reader by inserting your fingernails into the gap above the Pandigital logo, sliding the cover back with your fingers and lifting it up. The cover is held in place by adhesive, so you’ll have to press firmly enough to break the adhesive. Be careful not to damage the screen.

4. Locate the internal microSD card and unlock it by carefully sliding the locking cradle down with your fingernail.

5. Lift the locking cradle, remove the microSD card and put it aside. Be careful not to damage the device.

Install Open Android

6. Open the Pandigital Novel Android Open Platform Kit page on Pandigital.net in your Web browser. Click the “Download” link at the top of the page to download the .zip file to your computer.

7. Insert an SD card into your computer’s SD card slot and copy the downloaded .zip file to the SD card. Don’t unzip the contents of the .zip file.

8. Remove the SD card from your computer and insert it into the SD card slot on the bottom of the Pandigital Novel device.

9. Press the “Power” and “Vol+” buttons on the Pandigital Novel device at the same time and hold them down for five seconds. The device automatically installs the Android Open Platform Kit. A welcome screen and progress indicator appear on its screen.

Attach Cover

10. Turn off the Pandigital Novel e-reader by sliding the “Power” slider toward the edge of the device, waiting three seconds and tapping the “Power Off” button on the screen.

11. Reinsert the microSD card into the cradle and carefully wiggle the card to connect it properly. The microSD card must be seated flat.

12. Lay the locking cradle back on top of the microSD card and use your fingernail to slide the cradle up to the locked position.

13. Reattach the back cover to your device and turn it on.
