How to Flash Your G1

1. Download the AndRoot program to your personal computer. A link to AndRoot is in the Resources section of this article.

2. Download the Linda File Manager application from the Android Market on the G1. This free file management utility is required for the rooting process.

3. Attach the G1 to the computer with the USB cable. When prompted, click the 'Mount' button that appears on the G1's touch screen. This will mount the G1 to the computer as a removable drive.

4. Copy the AndRoot program file to the G1's SD card root directory. Click 'Unmount' from the G1's notification bar on the main screen, and unplug the USB cable.

5. Launch the Linda File Manager on the G1, browse to the AndRoot.apk file copied earlier to the G1's SD card and follow the prompts to install it.

6. Run the AndRoot program from the G1. Select 'Root' from the options. Restart the G1 when finished. Root access is available after the restart.
