How to Access Ubuntu From an Android
1. Connect to your Ubuntu machine using RemoteDroid. RemoteDroid works with a machine running Windows, Mac or any Linux operating system, including Ubuntu. It requires you to download a small application on your computer to act as a server, and the Android application is available in the Android Market on your phone. It only works when your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi connection and not over cell data. There is a free version and a Pro version for a small fee.
2. Download the VNC Viewer from the Android Market. Set up your Ubuntu machine for remote desktop access through the 'System Settings' menu. The Remote Desktop window gives you the IP address you need to put into the field labeled 'Address,' and any limitations on your machine about where you can access your remote desktop. If your computer is on a private network or behind a firewall, you may not be able to access it from outside of the network. VNC Viewer is free.
3. Access your Ubuntu computer using the TeamViewer Android application. TeamViewer is free for personal use. It works on Windows, Mac and Ubuntu, as well as other Linux flavors. Download the application onto your Android phone, then the software onto your Ubuntu machine. Log in to the software with the username and password of the machine you want to access. You do not need to set up or initialize remote desktop. It also works for computers behind firewalls, with dynamic IP addresses or otherwise outside of your network.
