How to Build a Root HTC Hero 2.37
1. Connect the HTC Hero to your computer. Download the firmware downgrade package available at The Unlockr to revert your phone's firmware to an earlier version, to avoid any compatibility issues with the rooting software. Double-click the file to run the downgrade.
2. Download 'Universal Androot' from The Unlockr. Slide down your HTC Hero's notification panel and click 'USB Connection.' Click 'Mount SD card' to mount the card to your computer.
3. Copy and paste 'UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5.apk' from your computer to your Hero's SD card. Disconnect the Hero once the data finishes transferring to your SD card.
4. Open your phone's file manager. If you don't currently have a file manager installed, Astro File Manager or another third-party application works for this purpose and is available through the Market.
5. Double-click the APK file and choose 'Install.' Tap your applications panel and open Universal Androot. Tap 'Root' and 'OK' to root your Hero.
