How to Install a Hidden Voice Recorder
1. Purchase a voice recorder from your local electronics store. There are several types available including a watch and pen. Look for a voice recorder with digital media, such as an SD card, that can hold hours of recordings. For a more hassle free approach, get a recorder with motion sensors that starts recording when it senses motion.
2. Run a test on the recorder by recording your own voice. Place the recorder 10 feet away from the source to evaluate the quality of the sound recorded.
3. Install the recorder. Find a good location where the recorder can be concealed. Options include a bookcase, heating vent, lighting fixture, smoke detector or behind a sofa. After concealing the recorder, run another test to ensure the sound is clear and comprehensible.
4. Move the recorder to a new location if the sound is pitchy or unclear. Place it where there is less interference with the sound waves. If the voice recorder has a noise filter for high frequency sounds, then activate it and test the unit again.
