How to Specify a Telephone Extension in Android
1. Call the number and note how much time it takes for the phone system to ask you to dial an extension. This will vary depending on the business and phone message in question. You can use the phone's on-screen call timer. Hang up the call after you are finished.
2. Open the Contacts list on your Android device.
3. Tap the contact whose number you want to add the extension to.
4. Press the 'Menu' key and touch 'Edit.'
5. Tap the 'Phone' field and add one comma after the number to provide a two-second delay. You can add as many commas as you need.
6. Type the extension number. For example, if you enter 2345678901,,,234 the phone will dial 234678901 and wait approximately six seconds. Then it will dial the remaining digits, 234.
7. Touch 'Save' to save the changes.
8. Call the number to verify the call goes to the correct extension. Tap the phone icon next to the contact name and listen on the line for the extra touch tones. If the phone does not wait long enough before dialing the extension number, go back and add more commas to the phone number. If the phone waits too long, reduce the number of commas.
