How to Unlock Root in a Nook Color
1. Download the Auto-Nooter application to your computer, right-click the file and select 'Extract Here.' The Auto-Nooter disk image file will be extracted to the download folder.
2. Insert the microSD card into the card reader. Plug the card reader into a USB port on your computer.
3. Download WinImage to your computer and extract it to the download folder. Double-click the 'winimage.exe' file to launch the program.
4. Click 'Disk' in the menu at the top of the WinImage window. Click 'Restore Virtual Hard Disk Image on Physical Drive' and select the drive letter that corresponds to the inserted microSD card.
5. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the Auto-Nooter disk image file in the WinImage dialog box. Click the 'autonooter.img' file, followed by the 'Open' button. The Auto-Nooter disk image file is written to the microSD card.
6. Turn the Nook Color off by holding down its power button. Insert the microSD card into the Nook Color's card reader in the lower right corner. Do not turn the device back on.
7. Connect the Nook Color to your computer using its USB cable. The Nook Color automatically boots up and updates its firmware from the Auto-Nooter disk image file on the microSD card. The Nook Color restarts after the update is complete, and is rooted once it has turned itself back on.
