1. Power on your Android phone and launch the Android Marketplace application.

2. Select the 'Search' function and type in 'SpeechSynthesis Data Installer.' Click 'Install' to begin installing the application.

3. Press 'Menu,' 'Settings,' 'Accessibility,' and 'Text-to-Speech'. Some phones, such as those with Motorola BLUR, have additional functionality which can be enabled under 'Accessibility' and 'TalkBack'.

4. Test your speech synthesis by attempting a phone call. Press 'Menu' and select 'Voice Search'. Say 'Call' and the name of the person you wish to call.
