How to Jailbreak an Android 1.6
1. Download the Universal Androot application to your computer.
2. Insert the microSD card into the card reader and connect it to a USB port on your computer. If your computer has a built-in SD card reader, insert the microSD card directly into that.
3. Open the microSD card by clicking its drive letter in 'My Computer,' and drag and drop the downloaded 'UniversalAndroot.apk' file onto the microSD card.
4. Remove the microSD card from the computer once the file transfer is complete and insert it into your Android device.
5. Launch the Google Marketplace application on your Android handset by tapping its icon on the Home screen. Search for a file manager application such as 'Astro File Manager,' 'Ado File Manager' or 'Estrong File Explorer.' A file manager is required to launch the Universal Androot 'APK' file on the device.
6. Tap the entry in the search results for your choice of file manager application, followed by the 'Install' button. The file manager app is downloaded and installed on your Android device.
7. Launch the file manager app, and navigate to the microSD card's folder on the Android device. Tap the 'UniversalAndroot.apk' file to launch the application.
8. Tap the 'Root :-)' button to jailbreak your Android device.
