How to Root the MyTouch Cupcake
Rooting the MyTouch running Android 1.5 (Cupcake)
1. Put your MyTouch in USB debugging mode by tapping the menu button on the phone. Tap on 'Settings', tap 'Applications', highlight the 'Unknown Sources' box, and then selecting 'Development' and finally highlighting 'USB Debugging'.
2. Open the phone's internet browser and go to http://www.ryebrye.com/files/flashrec.apk. This will download the rooting files directly to the device. Once the download finishes, install the apk file by tapping on the downloaded file in the window that opened when the file was selected from the website, and then tapping the 'Install' prompt.
3. Open the application once it finishes installing. Tap 'Backup Current Recovery Image' to back up the device in its current state so that later, if you wish to undo the rooting process, you can.
4. Tap 'Flash Cyanogen Recovery' once the backup finishes.
5. Power the phone off and back on by pressing the power button, selecting the 'Power Off' choice, and then wait for the phone to completely power down. Turn the phone back on by pressing the power button once more and wait for the phone to load.
