How to Make a Background for an iPhone That Works Like an Android

Create a Parallax Wallpaper Image

1. Launch your favorite graphics package, click the 'File' menu and select 'New.'

2. Enter the vertical size of the new image as 480 pixels. The width of the parallax image is determined by the number of horizontal Home screens you are using. Each Home screen is 320 pixels wide, so enter a width that corresponds to the number of Home screens. For example, four Home screens would require a wallpaper image that is 1280 pixels wide.

3. Fill the wallpaper image using photos, images, patterns or your own artwork. Consult the documentation of your graphics package for details on how to achieve the style you want. Save the completed wallpaper image to your computer as a JPEG file.

4. Open the folder containing the wallpaper image. Right-click the file and select 'Mail Recipient' from the 'Send To' menu. Send the message to an email account that is monitored by your iPhone. Most likely this will mean sending the email to yourself.

5. Launch the 'Mail' app on your iPhone. It will automatically check for new messages and download the email you sent yourself containing the wallpaper image. Press and hold the wallpaper image in the body of the email and select 'Save to Camera Roll.' The wallpaper image will be saved to your iPhone.

Install Simple Background

6. Launch the Cydia app store on your jailbroken iPhone and tap the 'Search' button in the menu across the bottom of the screen.

7. Type 'Simple Background' into the search box at the top. A list of results will be automatically compiled. Tap the entry for the Simple Background app to open its full listing page.

8. Tap the 'Install' button followed by the 'Confirm' button on the next page. The app will be downloaded and installed on your iPhone.

9. Tap the 'Reboot' button when prompted by Cydia. The iPhone will restart to complete the installation of Simple Background.

Activate the Android-Style Wallpaper on Your iPhone

10. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and tap the 'Wallpaper' button.

11. Tap the thumbnail image displaying your current Lock screen and Home screen wallpapers images.

12. Tap the 'Camera Roll' button, followed by the thumbnail for the parallax wallpaper image you saved from the email.

13. Tap the 'Set Home Screen' button. The wallpaper will be set to your Home screen background and will be automatically scrolled by the Simple Background app as you swipe to move between Home screens.
