How to Back Up My Android Homescreen to an SD Card

1. Unlock your Android device and open the application launcher. Tap on the 'Market' application. Press the magnifying glass icon to open the search box. Type in 'Launcher' and then press 'Enter.' Application launcher apps that allow for home screen backup include ADW.Launcher, Launcher Pro and GO Launcher EX.

2. Tap the listing for the app you want to use. Press the button under 'Install.' For free apps it will say 'Free.' For paid apps it will display the cost. Press 'OK' to accept the permissions for the app. The app will download to your device. Press 'Install' and then 'Done.'

3. Press the 'Home' button on your device. You will be prompted to select either the stock Android launcher or the launcher app you just installed. Touch the check box next to 'Always Use this Application' and then touch the name of the app you installed.

4. Organize the icons and widgets on your home screen. When you have things the way you like them, press the 'Menu' button and then press the correct option to access the settings for your particular launcher app. For example, with ADW.Launcher the option is 'ADW Settings' but with Launcher Pro the option is 'Preferences.'

5. Scroll through the list of settings for your launcher app until you see 'Backup.' Tap the option and then follow the onscreen instructions to complete the backup of your home-screen settings. The backup file is automatically saved to your device's SD card.
