How to Root an HTC Magic

1. Go to Addictivetips.com on your computer and download the SuperOneClick application package. Slide the USB data cable into the HTC Magic phone. Connect the other end to the computer. Wait for the 'USB Connected' notification to appear on your HTC Magic. Slide this notification down and tap it. Tap 'Charge Only' to switch the phone from USB Mass Storage mode, if it is not already set to only charge when connected to your computer.

2. Press the Magic's Menu button and tap 'Settings.' Tap 'Applications' and enter the 'Development' submenu. Turn on 'USB Debugging.' You can set your HTC Magic smartphone down after this.

3. Go to your computer. Double-click 'SuperOneClick.exe' to launch the rooting program. Click 'Universal' to access the universal rooting process for Android phones, as the other tab works only with Samsung phones.

4. Click 'Root.' SuperOneClick executes all of the necessary commands to completely unlock your HTC Magic smartphone. You can also use this application to authorize installation of applications not provided through the Android Marketplace once the root completes. This option allows you to install APK files for Android from any source, which is useful if you are on a wireless service provider who prevents you from using applications not approved through the Android Market.
