How to Transfer From a PC to an Android

1. Locate your Android USB cable. Your Android device should have been supplied with a cable to connect it to your PC. One end should plug into your Android device, normally through the same port you use to plug the device in to charge its battery. On the other end, there should be a USB connector which you can plug in to your PC. In some cases, Android USB cables are provided as part of the power plug.

2. Connect your Android device to your PC by plugging the cable in at both ends, one to the Android and the other to the PC USB port. Your Android device will display a notification informing you that the device has been connected to another device. You should see a little USB icon appear within the notification bar at the top of your Android screen. Open the notification area by sliding it down using your finger. A message reading 'USB Connected' will be displayed.

3. Tap the 'USB Connected' message on your Android device. You will see a pop-up message providing you with options in terms of what happens next. Which options appear depend partly on which version of Android you are running and partly on your device. You need to mount the device as a disk drive, so choose 'Mount' or 'Disk Drive' from the available options. You can now set the Android device down and focus on your computer.

4. Browse the Android device from your computer. Depending on which operating system you have on your PC, you will see a pop-up window providing you with options in terms of what you want to do with the newly connected device. You want to browse the folders and files on the device, so choose 'Open folder to view files' or whichever option matches this in your operating system. The computer will open a window displaying the contents of your Android device storage in the same way as a folder on your own PC or on an external storage device.

5. Locate the files you want to copy from your PC in a separate window. Select and copy them by pressing 'Ctrl' and 'C' or right-clicking and choosing 'Copy.' Go back to the window with your Android device content displayed. You can copy files to the directory which appears first if you like, as this is normally the root directory of your Android storage card. However, you can alternatively browse to another directory within this until you find the location you want. Paste the files by pressing 'Ctrl' and 'V' or right-clicking and choosing 'Paste.'

6. Disconnect your Android device from your PC. In most versions of Windows, you can do this by clicking the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon displayed in your system tray, normally at the bottom right of your screen. Alternatively, you can browse to the device in Windows Explorer, or Nautilus if you're on Linux, ejecting the device by right-clicking it and choosing 'Eject' or 'Safely Remove Drive.'
