The Effects of Rooting an Evo 4G

Added permisions

Rooting an Android phone is all about permissions. Like other Linux-based operating systems, Android uses different types of elevated permissions in order to grant and restrict access to certain parts of the Android operating system. When you root the EVO 4G, you are given superuser permissions. This means you have total control of the Android operating system on the EVO 4G. Superuser permissions give you access to many different features that otherwise would not be available on an unrooted EVO 4G.

System Access

System access is useful for people who like altering the many ways in which Android operates. You can remove any features you want from Android, making the EVO 4G perform and act the way you want it. Above all else, system access gives you access to changing the theme of the Android operating system. The entire Android theme is held in a single file called 'framework-res.apk.' With system access you can install alternate framework files that will completely change the look and feel of Android on the EVO 4G.

Applications

When you search on the Android Market, you may come across certain applications that say 'for root' or 'root users' at the end of the application name. This means that you can only use this application if you have rooted your phone. The open-source nature of Android means these rooted applications can be purchased and sold right on the official Android market. These applications include, but are not limited to Android launchers, tethering and theming the EVO 4 G and other rooted Android devices.

Overclocking

This is one of the most beneficial aspects of rooting an Android device such as the EVO 4G. Overclocking allows you to push the EVO 4G's processor to its maximum amount. This makes the EVO 4G much faster and allows you to play HD games with little to no lagging. There is a drawback, of course. Overclocking usually wreaks havoc on the EVO 4G and other Android device's battery power. If you have an extra battery, it is best to keep it handy if you are overclocking your EVO 4G.
