How to Install Software on the G1 Android



Installing from the Market

1. Turn your phone on and swipe the screen to unlock it. Press the 'Home' button.

2. Open the application drawer and tap 'Market.' If prompted, log in and agree to the terms.

3. Press the 'Search' button and search for an app. You can also tap one of the featured apps on the front page. If you don't have a Google checkout account or you just don't want to spend money, make sure to tap a listing that says 'Free.'

4. Tap any app and then tap 'Install.' Tap 'OK.' Wait for the app to download.

5. Press the 'Home' button and then tap the application drawer. Tap the app you installed to open it.

Installing from the Market

6. Press the 'Home' button. Press the 'Menu' button, and then tap 'Settings.'

7. Tap 'Applications.' Enable the 'Unknown sources.' Tap 'OK.' Press the 'Home' button.

8. Install a file manager application from the Market. Use the instructions in Section 1. Some popular free file managers are ASTRO file manager, ES File Manager and OI File Manager.

9. Press the 'Home' button. Open the application drawer and tap your file manager.

10. Navigate to the folder on your SD card where the .app file is. If you loaded the app from your computer straight to the SD card, it's in the first folder. If you downloaded it using your Android browser, it's in the 'download' folder.

11. Tap the .app file. Tap 'OK,' and then 'Install.' Tap 'Open' to start the app.
