How to View Files on an SD Card on a Droid

Over a USB Connection

1. Press the home button on your Droid to return to the home screen.

2. Plug the small end of your phone's USB data cable into the phone's micro USB port. Plug the large end of the cable into an available USB port on your computer.

3. Drag the notification bar on your Droid into view. Tap 'USB Connected.' Tap 'Mount,' if prompted.

4. Select 'My Computer' from your computer's start menu. Double-click removeable disk to view the contents of your phone's SD card. You can browse through the SD card and edit its files as if it is a folder on your computer.

5. Select the eject devices icon from your computer's system tray and select 'Removeable disk' to eject your phone from the computer when you are done using it. Drag down the notification bar on your phone, tap 'Turn Off USB Storage,' and tap 'Turn Off.'

File Browsing Apps

6. Press the home button on your phone, then tap the up arrow at the bottom of the screen to access the application drawer.

7. Tap 'Market.' Press the search button and type 'file explorer' in the search field.

8. Tap the name of a search result to view more information about that file browser. Ideatec File Browser, ES File Explorer, and ASTRO File Manager are all free, popular file browsers, but there are many other browsers available. Consult the comments on the app's information page for user reviews.

9. Tap 'Install' to download and install the app to your phone. Your phone will display a notification in the notification bar at the top of the screen when the download is complete.

10. Tap the home button, then tap the up arrow at the bottom of the screen to open the application drawer. Tap the name of the file browser that you downloaded to open it. Tap folders or files in the app to view them. Press the back button to return to the previous folder.
