How to Install a Tar.gz File

1. Open your web browser and navigate to the WinRAR download website located at www.win-rar.com/downloadond.html.

2. Click the blue 'DOWNLOAD' button on the left if you run a 32-bit version of Windows. Click the rightmost 'DOWNLOAD' button if you run a 64-bit version of Windows. Save the EXE installation file to your computer.

3. Double-click the EXE file that you downloaded and then click 'Install' to install the trial version of the WinRAR application to your computer. The trial version is fully functional, although you will receive messages demanding payment of a license fee once the program is installed for 40 days.

4. Hold the Windows logo key and press R to open a run command box. Type 'explorer' in the box and press Enter to open a Windows Explorer window.

5. Navigate to the folder that contains the tar.gz file that you wish to unpack. Double-click the file to open it in the WinRAR application.

6. Click and drag to select all files in the list and then click the 'Extract To' button in the menu ribbon.

7. Navigate to the folder to which you would like to direct the extracted contents of your tar.gz file, using the menu tree on the right side of the 'Extraction path and options' window.

8. Click the 'OK' button to extract the files to the specified path.
